According to the Sydney Morning Herald, on April 16, Australian police said a knife attack at an online ceremony at a church in the southwest of Sydney was an act of "terrorism" with religious motives.
New South Wales state police official Karen Webb said the attack was considered a religiously motivated "extremist" act aimed at intimidating people. Police arrested the suspect for questioning. This is an object that is not on the list of monitored terrorists.
Before that, the ceremony was broadcast live on YouTube and many people felt panic when they saw the police force being attacked by angry people outside the church. People used what was available in the area such as bricks, concrete, and barricades to attack police and police vehicles. Several police officers were injured and taken to the hospital. The crowd destroyed 20 police cars.
According to Ms. Karen Webb, this is unacceptable and those involved in the riot will be questioned and arrested.
The above incident occurred just a few days after a knife attack left six people dead at the Westfield Bondi Junction shopping center in eastern Sydney.
