It is unclear when the lake was formed, but it is a natural lake with a distinctive blue color, interspersed with fascinating limestone islands, creating a beautiful, pristine landscape like something out of a fairy tale.
With its vast, always full surface, the lake is the ideal place to experience water activities. Bamboo rafts and dozens of kayaks are ready to serve, taking visitors leisurely across the cool, refreshing water. The rafts, made from forest bamboo, connected by rattan ropes, and roofed with palm leaves, are both light and sturdy, gliding smoothly like clouds reflected in the water. Experienced rafters, such as Mr. Hoang Tam, a "son of the lake," not only take visitors on tours but also tell folk tales associated with Nong Dung, such as the legend of the "fairy's jade cup" falling into Huu Lien valley.
Nong Dung Lake leaves an unforgettable impression with its pure, crystal-clear turquoise water, so transparent that you can see schools of fish swimming. Under the sun, the lake's surface shimmers with a sparkling emerald hue, and a gentle breeze creates ripples. Surrounding the lake is a lush green lawn, dotted with reeds swaying in the wind. Beyond its captivating scenery and fresh air, Nong Dung is also an ideal place for camping and enjoying outdoor dining . The wide grassy area by the lake is a popular spot for groups of tourists to set up tents, light bonfires, and sing in the tranquil atmosphere. As evening falls, the lake is bathed in the golden hues of sunset, the shadows of mountains and trees stretching across the water, and flocks of white egrets flying back to their nests creating a vibrant scene. At night, the lights from the campsites illuminate the landscape like falling stars. The cool mountain breeze, carrying the scent of wildflowers and damp earth, recharges one's energy after the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
The road to the lake is convenient and only about 120 km from Hanoi , equivalent to a 3-hour drive. Visitors can travel by car or motorbike, combining their trip with visits to other attractions such as Dong Lam grassland, Khe Dau waterfall, Pac Mo dam, and Lan Dat village. Upon arriving at Nong Dung, what lingers most is not only the image of the emerald green lake, but also the feeling of tranquility, as if time has slowed down amidst this peaceful, unspoiled mountainous region.
