Việt NamViệt Nam08/05/2024

Upholding the tradition of solidarity, mutual support, and helping those in need, social welfare activities and assistance for the poor have been consistently prioritized by the Party committees, government, and Fatherland Front at all levels in Tam Nong district over the years. This has helped people overcome difficulties and gradually improve their lives.

The family of Ms. Nguyen Thi Dung, residing in Zone 17, Van Xuan Commune, Tam Nong District, received 50 million VND in support from the District Fatherland Front to build a new house.

Mr. Phan Duc Tai, Chairman of the Fatherland Front Committee of Tam Nong District, said: Identifying the care and support of the poor in particular and social welfare activities in general as one of the important tasks in the work of the Fatherland Front, the District Fatherland Front Committee always proactively develops plans, programs, and methods of mobilization to build and supplement the "For the Poor" Fund, mobilizing social resources to support the construction of solidarity houses for poor households facing housing difficulties. In particular, from 2020 to the present, the District Fatherland Front Committee has implemented the "Donate Used but Still Good Furniture and Items" campaign, such as doors, tables, chairs, beds, wardrobes, fans, televisions, and household items, to be donated to poor households in difficult circumstances. This campaign has received a positive response from agencies, units, businesses, schools, and a large number of people from all walks of life.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Dung's family, residing in Zone 17, Van Xuan Commune, is classified as a poor household facing difficult circumstances. Her husband passed away early, leaving her to live with her mentally ill daughter and granddaughter in a severely dilapidated old house. In 2023, the Fatherland Front of Van Xuan Commune submitted a dossier for approval to build a new house for Ms. Dung's family. The new house, with an area of 100 square meters, cost over 200 million VND in total. Of this amount, the District Fatherland Front contributed 50 million VND, the Commune Fatherland Front and the residential area contributed 15 million VND, and the remainder was contributed by relatives and family members. Ms. Dung shared: "Before, my family lived in a dilapidated house, and whenever it rained or stormed, we would have to stay at our relatives' houses. Thanks to the Fatherland Front at all levels and the local government, my family now has a new house. I am so happy; from now on, my family won't have to worry every time the rainy season comes..."

The family of Ms. Nguyen Thi Thoa in Zone 12, Dan Quyen Commune, is classified as a poor household with particularly difficult circumstances. Ms. Thoa is elderly, frail, and suffers from many illnesses, rendering her unable to work, and her son has a mental illness. Her family was approved for the construction of a solidarity house, and the Fatherland Front of the district donated two main doors, two windows, two side doors, a standing fan, and 1.5 million VND in cash.

Since launching the "Donate Used but Still Good Furniture and Household Items" campaign, the Fatherland Front of Tam Nong district has annually received donations of household items such as doors, tables, chairs, beds, wardrobes, fans, televisions, and other household appliances to give to poor households in difficult circumstances. Based on the donated items, the Fatherland Front of the district reviews and compiles a list of the specific conditions and circumstances of poor households in need of furniture and household items to provide timely and appropriate support.

During its term, the Tam Nong District "For the Poor" Fund raised nearly 2.5 billion VND in donations. It provided support and received assistance from businesses to build 71 new houses and repair 11 houses, with a total support cost exceeding 3.5 billion VND. The District Fatherland Front also promptly organized visits and distributed over 20,700 gifts, worth nearly 8 billion VND, to poor and near-poor households, policy beneficiary families, and people with meritorious services during the Lunar New Year each year; and provided timely support and over 250 million VND to 58 households facing sudden difficulties... This created motivation and instilled confidence in the poor to improve their lives, contributing to reducing the poverty rate in the entire district to 2.33%.

It can be seen that the work of caring for the lives of the poor and disadvantaged households by the Fatherland Front at all levels in Tam Nong district has been constantly innovated in content and improved in quality. They have proactively coordinated and effectively implemented various campaigns, creating a widespread movement that contributes to raising awareness among all levels and sectors in joining hands to care for the poor and effectively implement social security programs.
