Encountering the 'king of time'

Vietnamese 3-cushion carom billiards continued its successful run in the round of 32, with 5 out of 6 players winning and advancing to the round of 16. The most exciting match for Vietnamese players in the round of 32 was undoubtedly the clash between Tran Quyet Chien and Berkay Karakurt (Turkey, world number 17). Vietnam's number one player was luckier and came from behind to win narrowly 50-49 against the Turkish player.

Fans had been hoping to witness a major clash between Tran Quyet Chien and Bao Phuong Vinh in the round of 16, as the two players were in the same bracket. However, Bao Phuong Vinh suffered a disappointing defeat against Jeremy Bury (France) and was eliminated in the round of 32. Therefore, Tran Quyet Chien will face Jeremy Bury (world number 17) in the round of 16. This match will take place at 1:30 PM today (September 28).

Tran Quyet Chien faces a tough opponent in the Round of 16 of the 2024 World Championship.

The French billiards player is a very familiar face to Vietnamese fans. Bury has a very tricky playing style and is nicknamed the "king of time," due to his exceptionally good timing. Bury always calculates meticulously for each shot (even the easiest ones), and only makes a shot when the clock (each turn is limited to 40 seconds) has 1 to 2 seconds left.

The last time Tran Quyet Chien and Bury faced each other was in the group stage of the World Cup in Ankara (Türkiye) in June. On that occasion, the Vietnamese player emerged victorious. In this rematch, fans are even hoping that Quyet Chien will once again defeat Bury, partly to "settle the score" for his younger compatriot Bao Phuong Vinh.

In addition, another match that promises to be very exciting is the all-Vietnamese showdown between Tran Duc Minh and Chiem Hong Thai, taking place at 1:30 PM.

Tran Thanh Luc will face a very strong opponent, Marco Zanetti (Italy), also at 1:30 PM. Nguyen Van Tai will be the first Vietnamese player to take the field in the round of 16, when he meets Juan Garcia (Colombia) at 11:00 AM.

After the round of 16 concludes, the winning players will continue to compete in the quarterfinals this afternoon (September 28). The quarterfinal matches of the 2024 World Championship begin at 4 PM.
