The Lao Than mountain range, at an altitude of 2,860 meters, is always a popular choice for those who enjoy trekking.
Amidst the majestic mountains of the border region of Lao Cai , where ribbons of clouds gently drape over the slopes, lies the Lao Than tower complex, situated at an altitude of 2,860m, a popular choice for those who enjoy trekking.
It's not the sheer challenge of overcoming altitude or the difficulty of the climbing route that makes Lao Than, known as the "roof of Y Ty," so attractive, but it possesses its own unique beauty. It remains pristine and wild, a testament to the Northwest mountains, with its precarious slopes amidst majestic nature.

Each angle of the "Roof of Y Tý" possesses its own unique beauty.
Only those passionate about mountain climbing can truly understand the excitement of anticipating each moment as something emerges from behind the trees. But the most anticipated moment at Lao Than remains the dream of getting lost amidst a sea of clouds.

Choosing the end of October wasn't necessarily ideal, but with hope still high in the cool mountain air, we set off at 4 a.m. from Hanoi towards Muong Hum, Bat Xat, Lao Cai.

Starting point.
The starting point for the journey to conquer the peak begins in Phin Ho village, Y Ty commune. In the early afternoon, the highlands are shrouded in a thick, dense fog. As we walk, we hear the sound of rain pattering on the forest leaves, and the prospect of chasing clouds gradually fades from our minds. But having become accustomed to this situation, everyone reassures themselves and continues to hope for a cloudy sky high above.

The path to the mountaintop.

After two hours of trudging through the mud, the weather seemed to understand our plight; the fog cleared, and the shadows of ancient trees gradually appeared, though not as numerous as on other climbing routes. Occasionally, glistening raindrops clung to the vines, enough to give us hope for a brighter sky ahead.

Friendly companions in nature.

As we ascended higher, the sky revealed faint blue rays of light, and the clouds gradually emerged. Our group was overwhelmed by the sight of fluffy white clouds embracing the high mountains. The addition of a horse leisurely strolling through the vast mountain landscape made the natural scenery even more enchanting.

The image depicts a fisherman fishing.
Next to it, the famous Devil's Rock juts out, precariously suspended in mid-air. It looks quite unstable, but everyone who comes here "bravely" climbs out, just to get a picture of a fisherman casting his net.
As the sun began to set, we arrived at the campsite, where the porters were preparing dinner. No matter how many times we've had a BBQ party in the mountains, we're always as excited as the first time.

Leo was exhausted after a long day, so by the time the party was over, his eyelids were drooping, and sleep came quickly, only to wake up again while the night was still deep in its slumber.
At 6 a.m., we reached the summit, touching the tower inscribed with "Lao Than 2,860m" while it was still dark. We had reached our dream, and although the sunrise wasn't as we imagined, the members of our group managed to take 500 photos before descending to the campsite.

A joyful moment halfway up the mountain.
The further down the mountain, the more beautiful it became, with a sea of clouds appearing along the dinosaur-like ridge. Enjoying the scenery and capturing the myriad colors of the mountains and forests, the whole group finally arrived back in Y Tý. Soaking in a bath of Dao herbal water to relax our muscles and bones, we arrived just in time for lunch. Around the table with wild vegetables and stream fish, lively conversations and laughter concluded the enjoyable and refreshing journey, providing motivation for our next trip.
