The above programs and models have helped many children from particularly disadvantaged families attend school, making a positive contribution to the cause of "nurturing future generations" and raising the intellectual level of the people in the coastal border region.
GET INTO THE SITUATION WITH ALL YOUR LOVE AND RESPONSIBILITY
The Border Guard Force (BGF) has always upheld the principle that "The outpost is our home, the border is our homeland, and the people of all ethnic groups are our brothers and sisters"; and, adhering to the viewpoint that "Whatever benefits the people, we must do our utmost to do; whatever harms the people, we must do our utmost to avoid," the BGF Command has implemented many effective activities. Specifically, these include: assigning Party members to be responsible for and assist families in border areas in developing their economy ; the BGF contributing to the construction of new rural areas; the "Spring Border Guard Program to Warm the Hearts of the People," "Teacher in Military Uniform," "Doctor in Military Uniform," etc. In particular, with the motto "Giving literacy, spreading hope," in 2016, the BGF Command launched and implemented the "Helping Children Go to School" program to assist students from grades 1 to 12 who are from disadvantaged backgrounds, families of policy beneficiaries, and ethnic minorities.

Immediately after the Party Committee and the Border Guard Command launched the "Helping Children Go to School" program throughout the entire force, and subsequently the "Adopted Children of Border Guard Posts" model, officers and soldiers of the Tien Giang Provincial Border Guard enthusiastically responded and implemented it. This is because, in the coastal border area of the province, there are still many families with difficult circumstances who do not have the means to care for their children's education...
Based on the above reality, the Party Committee of the Tien Giang Provincial Border Guard Command has concretized the "Helping Children Go to School" Program into a resolution to lead and direct agencies and units to organize its implementation, considering it a regular task and one of the important solutions to build an increasingly strong coastal border area. Border Guard Posts coordinate with local authorities and schools in the area to survey and select students with particularly difficult circumstances, ensuring they meet the required criteria, to be sponsored or cared for within the unit.
| Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Quoc Thanh, Deputy Political Commissar of the Tien Giang Provincial Border Guard Command, stated that the "Helping Children Go to School" program and the "Adopted Children of Border Guard Posts" model are sound policies of the Party Committee and the Border Guard Command. The program and model demonstrate profound humanity, expressing gratitude and practical support from Border Guard officers and soldiers towards ethnic minorities in border and island areas, contributing to the successful implementation of the motto "The post is our home, the border is our homeland, and ethnic minorities are our brothers and sisters." |
The "Helping Children Go to School" program, with its profound humanitarian significance, has received the consensus and active participation of officers and soldiers in the unit. Annually, each officer and professional soldier contributes two days' worth of basic salary; non-commissioned officers and soldiers contribute voluntarily; and funds from agricultural production and other sponsorships are used to establish the unit's "Helping Children Go to School" Fund.
The above funds are managed and used by specialized agencies under the Tien Giang Provincial Border Guard Command, ensuring they are used for the intended purpose and in accordance with financial principles. Annually, funds are allocated to units to support eligible students at a rate of 500,000 VND per student per month. To date, the unit has provided support to these students totaling over 1.2 billion VND. In addition, every year, on the occasion of the start of the new school year, International Children's Day, Mid-Autumn Festival, and Lunar New Year, the units also give gifts to encourage students to excel in their studies.
In addition, the "Helping Children Go to School" Fund at various agencies and units received support from numerous businesses and philanthropists, donating nearly 3,000 notebooks, 130 backpacks, 35 bicycles, 2 desks, and 85 million VND to help children buy clothes and school supplies. The Provincial Border Guard Command allocated 42 million VND from its unit's fund to support two children who are "Adopted Children of Border Guard Posts" to purchase learning equipment under the "Internet and Computers for Children" program, enabling them to study online during the local lockdown in the Covid-19 outbreak…
CONTINUE WRITING THE DREAMS
Le Trong Phuc (born in 2013, residing in Ly Quan 2 hamlet, Phu Dong commune, Tan Phu Dong district, Tien Giang province) lost his father at a young age and currently lives with his mother, older sister, and elderly maternal grandparents. Major Nguyen Huynh Danh, Political Officer and Deputy Commander of Phu Tan Border Guard Station, said that in addition to Phuc, the unit also sponsors Nguyen Ngoc Hanh Dung (born in 2012, residing in Phao Dai Hamlet, Phu Tan Commune, Tan Phu Dong District), who lost her father at a young age and is currently living with her mother. The unit has assigned officers to directly care for both children, regularly visiting, encouraging, and monitoring their studies. Besides Phuc and Hanh, there are 8 other children in the area under the unit's responsibility who are supported through the "Helping Children Go to School" program.
From 2016 to the present, agencies and units under the Tien Giang Provincial Border Guard have sponsored 32 students under the "Helping Children Go to School" program and adopted 2 children as "Adopted Children of Border Guard Posts," directly cared for by the Phu Tan Border Guard Post. Over the years, the children sponsored by the Border Guard have regularly attended school, stayed in class, and made progress in their studies and physical training.
As a result, the students' academic and personal achievements have improved significantly, earning praise and commendation from their teachers and the school. This success affirms the effectiveness of the "Adopted Children of Border Guard Posts" model, creating favorable conditions for the students to continue to excel and strive for academic success. Furthermore, through sponsoring these children, the coordination between the Border Guard Post, local Party committees and authorities, schools, and the students' families has become even closer, strengthening the close-knit bond between the military and the people.
Currently, the Tien Giang Provincial Border Guard unit is sponsoring 31 children in the "Helping Children Go to School" program, including 13 primary school students; 15 secondary school students; and 3 high school students (of which 7 are fatherless, 1 is motherless, and 1 is both motherless). At the end of each school year, many students have graduated from grade 12 and passed entrance exams to colleges and universities; in the 2023-2024 school year alone, 5 students graduated from grade 12, with 2 admitted to universities and 2 to colleges. According to the schools' academic performance assessments, all students in the "Helping Children Go to School" program and the "Border Guard Post's Adopted Children" model have shown significant progress in their studies and training, and have received good conduct ratings…

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Quoc Thanh, Deputy Political Commissar of the Tien Giang Provincial Border Guard Command, stated that after a period of implementation, the "Helping Children Go to School" program and the "Adopted Children of Border Guard Posts" model have yielded many tangible and effective results. Party committees and commanders of the units have effectively disseminated information, promoted awareness, and encouraged officers and soldiers to voluntarily contribute funds and participate in the program. Officers and soldiers assigned to directly mentor and assist the children have consistently demonstrated a high sense of responsibility, wholeheartedly caring for them in both their daily lives and studies. Local units regularly coordinate with local Party committees and authorities to provide support, encouragement, and guidance to the children, thereby fostering consensus in the implementation of the program and model.
To ensure funding for the children's upbringing, the units have mobilized organizations, individuals, officers, and soldiers inside and outside the unit to voluntarily contribute funds to the program and model, demonstrating responsibility, compassion, and sharing with the people in the coastal border areas. In addition, the units regularly assign officers to meet with and provide material assistance, encourage the children to overcome difficulties, and regularly exchange information and guide them in their studies, training, and physical activities. They maintain close contact with the local community, families, and schools where the children attend to exchange information, monitor their studies, training, awareness, and responsibility towards their class, school, family, and community, in order to promptly encourage and promote positive actions. They also identify and correct inappropriate behavior and deviant behaviors, helping the children become good children and excellent students. Through this, a close and intimate relationship is created between the Border Guard Post and the families, and between the Border Guard officers and soldiers and the children. Many officers become like "fathers, mothers, and older brothers" to the children.
Not only demonstrating profound humanity and receiving recognition and high praise from local Party committees, authorities, and people, the "Helping Children Go to School" program and the "Adopted Children of Border Guard Posts" model implemented by the Tien Giang Provincial Border Guard have helped countless poor students realize their dreams and have a brighter future. The program and model have contributed to strengthening the "military-civilian" bond in the coastal border area.
