Running is a sport that easily spreads widely, not only bringing great health benefits but also serving as a very effective bridge connecting young people.

Improving the quality of life

Duong Tien (from Can Tho ) took up running thanks to a colleague's persuasion. Tien works at Saigonbooks, a company with a large percentage of its staff involved in running. The company's leadership is very fond of exercise. He often organizes running events at Sala (Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City) twice a month, attracting enthusiastic participation from employees. "I joined everyone for the fun. The pandemic disrupted our running, preventing us from doing it together. Later, we resumed running. This time, it was my turn to lead the way and get everyone excited," Duong Tien recounted. Running alone allows Tien to fully focus on herself, measuring her metrics and assessing her potential for improvement. Training with others gives her the opportunity to learn and motivate her teammates. For this young woman born in the 90s, each training style has its own unique charm.

The feeling of achieving a goal was the initial reason Tien fell in love with running. The happiness that surged through her every time she crossed the finish line motivated her to train diligently to improve her fitness and speed. The other runners around her enthusiastically supported the newcomer. Every time someone improved, it inspired the group. At one point, Tien "persuaded" 10 friends to regularly run around the Reunification Hall area. The group even designed uniforms, and although later their schedules became busy and it became difficult to run together, most still maintained the habit and love for the sport. She confided: "I gained more motivation to work and study, which allowed me to gradually move closer to my future plans. This confirms that my efforts have paid off."

It's not just Duong Tien; young people who take up running and train regularly with proper technique notice a significant improvement in concentration and endurance, reduced stress, better sleep, and strengthened perseverance and determination… As a result, their quality of life is enhanced.

Increase social connections

Running groups and clubs are being formed everywhere. Mr. Tran Cong Phung (Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City) has been running regularly with his group of friends for over three months. Every Saturday morning, they run together, chatting happily after a week of work. Running groups, often formed by people from the same company, school, or neighborhood, are very common. A quick search on social media using keywords like "runners," "fun run," "running enthusiasts," reveals countless groups with memberships ranging from a few thousand to hundreds of thousands. They may share some common ground or nothing more than a shared interest and desire to run. Many beautiful relationships, genuine love, and friendships have blossomed along the running route. Interestingly, this year, the number of running events has increased significantly across the country. Beyond creating a healthy and beneficial playground and honoring the value of sports in life, many running events are also linked to humanitarian significance. Most popular are races aimed at raising funds for charitable activities such as: heart surgeries for children, scholarships for disadvantaged students, like the race organized by the Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper… Organizing races also contributes to stimulating tourism in the host locality. Runners take the opportunity to explore the culture, history, and cuisine of new places.

Most running events are becoming increasingly professional, with many incorporating musical performances or games, creating a festive and memorable atmosphere that leaves a lasting impression on everyone. Running is also a popular outdoor activity among young people as a way to break their addiction to electronic devices and easily meet, socialize, and make friends.

Although running doesn't require expensive equipment and can be done anywhere, runners must take certain precautions to avoid risks and injuries. For example, medical advice and guidance are necessary if there are any health issues. Running shoes are an investment; they don't necessarily have to be expensive, but they must be comfortable, well-fitting, and safe. Runners should have some knowledge of warming up before running or performing essential stretching exercises to prevent muscle strain after completing a distance. Nutrition and rest before, during, and after each run are also important and should not be neglected. Especially during periods of intense heat, be careful to protect your health. Runners need to listen to their bodies to train appropriately and drink enough water.
