In Hiep Thanh commune, a crucial gateway for agricultural trade, farmers are pouring all their energy into the final stages of care after days of struggling through the difficulties of successive floods. The laughter and chatter of workers weeding and fertilizing echo across the fields; while gardeners growing chrysanthemums, lilies, gladioli, and marigolds are busy lighting lamps at night to regulate growth and ensure the flowers bloom in time for New Year's Eve.
Mr. Le Hong Thang, residing in Trung Hiep village, Hiep Thanh commune, a farmer with nearly 20 years of experience in flower cultivation, said: “Almost every year my family grows flowers for Tet (Lunar New Year). This year, I planted 8 sao (approximately 0.8 hectares) of flowers, including 6.5 sao of yellow jasmine and the remaining 1.5 sao of electric chrysanthemums. For nearly two months now, the prices of all kinds of flowers have been high, and I hope these prices will remain until Tet.”
According to representatives of the Hiep Thanh Commune People's Committee, the locality is focusing on directing the people to produce and harvest the winter-spring crop with a total flower area of up to 218 hectares, of which the majority is cut gladiolus (200 hectares) along with many other types of flowers such as orchids, chrysanthemums, carnations, lilies, and yellow jasmine...
In Duc Trong commune, farmers are also urgently cultivating about 2,900 hectares of various vegetables such as cabbage, lettuce, carrots, and tomatoes to meet market supply deadlines. Mr. Nguyen Van Nam, a local vegetable farmer, shared that despite the unpredictable weather at the end of 2025, thanks to proactive farming techniques and careful seed selection, his family still hopes for a stable yield to have a prosperous Tet holiday.
Not far away, Don Duong commune – the province's largest vegetable-growing area – is undergoing a dramatic transformation, becoming a giant green construction site with crops such as tomatoes, bell peppers, kohlrabi, and green beans, along with short-term vegetables like various types of cabbage, lettuce, scallions, and herbs, all ready for the Lunar New Year. The strong shift towards high-tech agriculture has helped local farmers become more proactive in terms of productivity and minimize weather-related risks. Ms. Tran Thi Hoa, a farm owner in Don Duong commune, excitedly shared that thanks to the modern greenhouse system and automated irrigation, her family's vegetable garden was almost unaffected by the recent historic flood. The crops are now developing evenly and are ready for truck shipments to provinces in the Southeast and Southwest regions for this year's Lunar New Year.
Despite facing numerous challenges in recovering from the severe damage caused by natural disasters at the end of 2025, optimism is still evident on the faces of the farmers here. All the meticulous preparation, from seed selection to cultivation techniques, is aimed at providing the highest quality agricultural products for the Tet holiday meals and celebrations of every family. In just over half a month, when convoys of trucks begin to leave the port and head to all corners of the country, the farmers of Duc Trong, Don Duong, and surrounding areas will begin to fully appreciate the fruits of their labor after months of toiling in the fields, ready to welcome a new year of the Horse (Binh Ngo) filled with hope and prosperity.
