Taking advantage of favorable weather conditions, farmers in Le Ninh commune are concentrating their efforts on caring for their planted rice fields. In Lai Xa village, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Loi is busy thinning seedlings and fertilizing her family's more than 0.7 hectares of rice. Thanks to strict adherence to the planting schedule and cultivation techniques, her entire rice crop is currently thriving, lush and green across the fields.

Sharing the same sentiment, in the fields of My Duc village, Mr. Nguyen Van Thien said: “My family cultivates 4 sao (approximately 0.4 hectares) of Vietnamese rice varieties. Currently, the rice plants are growing well, with no signs of pests or diseases. We hope for favorable weather conditions so we can have a bountiful harvest and stable income.”

This year, during the winter-spring season, Le Ninh commune planted 1,600 hectares of rice. To ensure high yields, the commune's People's Committee directed the introduction of high-quality rice varieties with good resistance and suitability to the local soil characteristics, such as Bac Thinh, Nhi Uu 838, VNR20, Ha Phat 3, PC6, HN6, etc. Currently, most of the rice fields are in the vigorous tillering stage, with the main crop reaching 3-5 leaves.

To achieve the highest productivity, the People's Committee of the commune directed villages and agricultural service cooperatives to proactively supply seeds, fertilizers, and other necessary agricultural materials to farmers; and encouraged farmers to apply the improved SRI (System of Rice Intensification) method to save production costs. In addition, the locality actively encouraged people to dredge canals and ditches, proactively monitor the growth of rice plants; focus on proper fertilization and rice care techniques; and advised farmers to regularly inspect their fields, monitor rice growth to ensure proper care and timely detection of pests and diseases.

According to Nguyen Anh Son, Director of My Duc Agricultural Production and Service Cooperative: “This year's winter-spring crop saw the cooperative planting rice on over 97 hectares. Before, during, and after Tet (Lunar New Year), rice pests and diseases tend to become more complex, so cooperative members regularly inspect the planted rice fields and implement protective measures to ensure good growth and development. In particular, the cooperative proactively implemented an alternating dry and wet irrigation process to allow rice roots to grow deeper and longer, absorb nutrients effectively, and prevent lodging, thereby helping the rice plants develop well and yield high productivity.”

According to information from the Le Ninh Commune General Service Center, the winter-spring rice crop is currently in the tillering stage, with the main crop having 3-5 leaves. Recently, the weather has been cloudy interspersed with warm sunshine and high humidity, creating favorable conditions for the development and spread of pests and diseases. Currently, some rice fields in the commune have begun to show signs of blast disease and golden apple snail infestation. Farmers have taken timely preventive measures to avoid widespread outbreaks.

According to the Vice Chairman of the People's Committee and Director of the General Service Center of Le Ninh commune, Duong Quang Hung, it is predicted that pests and diseases will continue to cause damage to rice crops in the coming period. To protect the crops, the General Service Center of the commune has guided localities and farmers to focus their efforts on effectively implementing measures such as: Regularly inspecting fields, closely monitoring fields with excessive nitrogen fertilization, using rice varieties susceptible to rice blast disease such as HN6, PC6, VNR20, Thai Xuyen 111…; applying a comprehensive set of cultivation techniques to ensure proper planting density and well-ventilated fields; applying balanced NPK fertilizer; and regulating water appropriately, avoiding drought or deep flooding.

Upon detecting the first signs of rice blast disease, promptly spray with a fungicide according to the "four correct principles" and collect pesticide packaging after use as required. Use one of the following fungicides containing specific active ingredients such as Tricyclazole, Isoprothiolane, Fenoxanil, etc., for control.

Under the guidance of the People's Committee of the commune and with the proactive efforts of the farmers, Le Ninh commune is aiming for a successful 2025-2026 winter-spring crop, contributing to ensuring food security and improving the economic lives of the local people.
