Proactive forest fire prevention and control

Việt NamViệt Nam07/04/2024

Maintaining strict patrol and control activities, establishing forest protection corridors, and preparing contingency plans in case of forest fires are tasks regularly carried out by members of the Phan Xi Păng Ward Forest Protection Team, especially during hot weather like the present.

Prepare contingency plans to respond in the event of a forest fire.

Mr. Pham Van Vien, head of the Forest Protection Team in Phan Xi Pang ward, Sa Pa town, said: "The vegetation under the forest canopy is drying up, so we are coordinating with the Sa Pa Forest Ranger Station to educate and encourage people not to enter the forest for farming, and to always be on duty to inspect and control key areas."

During peak hot days, the Forest Protection Department and the Management Boards of Special-Use and Protection Forests in localities throughout the province strictly maintain a 24/7 duty roster at all forest protection checkpoints and stations in key areas with a high risk of fire.

Mr. Tran Quang Dai, Deputy Head of the Lao Cai City Forest Protection Department (pictured above), said: “We have established teams to conduct regular and surprise inspections of forest owners as well as the People's Committees of communes and wards regarding fire prevention and control. Based on the inspection results and evaluation reports, we correct units that are not performing well, encourage units that are performing well, and promote positive aspects.”

Over 4,500 members of forest protection task forces throughout the province have also been trained to be ready to respond to various situations. In addition, the work of providing information, forecasting and warning of fire risks, and inspecting forest fire prevention and fighting equipment has also received special attention from specialized forces, ensuring proactive response in case of an emergency.

Special attention is paid to the work of providing information, forecasting and warning of fire risks, and inspecting forest fire prevention and fighting equipment.

Mr. Nguyen Quang Vinh, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of the province, added: “We need to strengthen propaganda efforts and raise public awareness in forest protection and fire prevention. This is especially important regarding the use of fire at the forest edge and within the forest during days with strong winds of level IV and V. We should also review fire prevention infrastructure and install additional warning signs and information points on fire prevention and control.”

Forecasts indicate that hot and dry weather conditions will continue to worsen, increasing the risk of forest fires. Therefore, along with the decisive involvement of Party committees and authorities, every citizen needs to raise awareness and strictly adhere to regulations on forest fire prevention and control, protect resources, and create sustainable livelihoods for the people.
