Speaking on the sidelines of the National Assembly on the morning of October 30, the Chairman of the Culture and Education Committee, Nguyen Dac Vinh, stated that to prevent school violence, the fundamental and long-term issue is to build a positive school culture for students.
According to Mr. Vinh, besides the time spent at home receiving education from parents and grandparents, most children today receive their education from school. Therefore, forming a positive school culture for students is a long-term solution to reduce school violence.
"However, this requires a long-term approach and results cannot be seen overnight. Most importantly, teachers and parents need to set a good example for children," Mr. Vinh emphasized.

According to Mr. Vinh, building a strong foundation is crucial and must be incorporated into every lesson and subject, from the family to the school. This helps children develop social relationships with one another, fostering love and respect, which will reduce violence.
"Building a positive school culture requires great perseverance to cultivate awareness in each student. Teachers must be truly exemplary, and the relationships between teachers and students must be genuinely loving. Even the relationship between students and the security guard needs attention. Students must be educated to greet the security guard respectfully. When these small things are given attention, everything will improve," Mr. Vinh said.
Below are some questions from the press and answers from the Chairman of the Culture and Education Committee, Nguyen Dac Vinh:
*School culture has long been discussed as a solution, but school violence seems to be on the rise?
- School violence has probably always existed, but recently the level of violence and the way it's manifested have become very worrying. This is not just about physical violence, but also about insulting each other's dignity.
Even more worrying is that friends and the surrounding community have not yet taken a clear stance or actively participated in preventing the violence. We have talked about this for a long time.
However, this requires great perseverance and a firm stance against social violence. Because we are building a happy society, especially a system where people know how to love one another, where everyone is for each other, and each person is for everyone.
What are the causes of this alarming situation of school violence?
- There are many reasons, partly due to the influence of films and partly due to the influence of social media. Nowadays, students have much easier access to information on social media and the internet than before, so they are exposed to information and images at an early age, including unhealthy information.
Therefore, we need to build resilience in children. Besides guiding them towards accessing more healthy information and limiting their exposure to negative information, we also need to help them recognize what is good and what is bad, and avoid following it.
Here, right here in the National Assembly forum, many delegates have spoken on this issue. Turning policy into action requires great perseverance because changing people's perceptions and behaviors needs to be done regularly, continuously, and over the long term.
*He mentioned the role models of teachers, parents, and grandparents. What role do adults play in this story?
- The role model of adults and family is very important for children. Adults have a full understanding, and children often learn and imitate them. Therefore, adults must feel responsible for setting a good example for their children, so as not to negatively affect future generations.
Adults must behave in a exemplary and restrained manner in the presence of children. Children should not be exposed to negative adult behavior, but rather to more positive ways of behaving.
For example, nowadays, if an adult intends to run a red light on the road, children immediately remind them. This is because children are educated from a young age to obey road traffic laws.
Children are very special. We need to strive to expose them to more positive things. I reiterate, we need to build their resilience and teach them to distinguish between good and bad. They will then gravitate towards what is good and reject what is bad.
*But nowadays, families and teachers are quite busy helping children build immunity as you mentioned?
- It's not about being busy or not being busy. It's about each person's awareness, at each moment, in each place, and in each situation. It's not like we're only teaching children now.
For example, the military training program only lasts 3 weeks, but the students come back with very good behavior. They fold their own blankets and sheets, express their love for their parents... In just 3 weeks, we have established very good habits for the students. So, school is where they study for 12 years, why can't we instill good culture in them?
The educational environment must be excellent, so that students perceive it as a wonderful place with a positive impact on them. We must strive to create an educational environment that helps students become increasingly well-rounded individuals.
Thank you, sir!
