" I extend my deepest condolences to the families and friends of the victims of the traffic accident involving members of HAGL Football Club ," FIFA President Gianni Infantino shared on social media.

"My deepest condolences and prayers go out to those who lost their lives, those affected by this tragic accident, as well as to the Vietnam Football Federation, the coaching staff and players of HAGL during this difficult time ," Infantino wrote.

On the afternoon of August 12th, after a match against SLNA, a car carrying four members of HAGL was traveling from Buon Ma Thuot city ( Dak Lak ) to Pleiku (Gia Lai). While on National Highway 14, in the Ia Hru commune, Chu Puh district, Gia Lai province, the car met with an accident.

According to initial investigations, the dump truck with license plate 81H-027.60, driven by Dinh Tien Binh, overtook a passenger car carrying HAGL members. After noticing an oncoming vehicle, driver Binh swerved, crashing into the left side of the passenger car and causing the accident.

The incident resulted in the deaths of coach Duong Minh Ninh, foreign player Paollo Madeira Oliveira, and doctor Dao Trong Tri. The driver, Nguyen Tu Sinh, survived and was taken to the hospital for emergency treatment; he is now out of danger and in stable condition.

HAGL Club has arranged for staff and employees to assist the victims' families with funeral arrangements. Meanwhile, Paollo's body is being held at the funeral home of the Hoang Anh Gia Lai Medical Hospital. The team has booked a flight for Paollo's mother from Portugal to Vietnam today, August 14th. Mr. Doan Nguyen Duc (Chairman Duc) is present, directing and participating in the funeral arrangements for the three members of HAGL Club.

The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), football teams, coaches, and players have written letters of condolence, sharing their grief with the victims' families and HAGL Club. The VFF has sent representatives to visit and support the victims' families. In addition, a moment of silence is observed at the beginning of each match in the domestic leagues managed by the VFF.

On the afternoon of August 13th, the Investigation Police Department of Gia Lai province issued a decision to initiate a criminal case and prosecute Dinh Tien Binh (born in 1987, residing in Nhon Hoa town, Chu Puh district, Gia Lai province) for "Violation of regulations on participation in road traffic" under Article 260 of the Penal Code.
