Working together for community life

(Baothanhhoa.vn) - Promoting the pioneering spirit, volunteerism, and enthusiasm of young people, the youth unions and student associations of universities and colleges in the province have launched and effectively maintained the youth volunteer movement for community life, contributing to building a positive image of the volunteer youth in their blue uniforms.

Members of the Youth Union and students from Hong Duc University participated in building rural roads in Phu Le commune (formerly Quan Hoa district) during the 2024 summer volunteer campaign.

For many years, the slogan "Youth of Hong Duc University are proactive and volunteer for community life" has been widely upheld by the university's union members and students, becoming a beautiful aspect of the union's work and youth movement. Based on this slogan, the Hong Duc University Youth Union has widely implemented community service programs such as blood donation, supporting children's education, and pioneering rural development. In the last three years, the union has organized over 150 meaningful volunteer activities, attracting more than 5,000 union members and students. According to Truong Ngoc Binh, Secretary of the Hong Duc University Youth Union: A highlight of the union's volunteer movement for community life is the effective implementation and maintenance of the rural development volunteer program, specifically supporting the concrete paving of inter-village roads in the mountainous districts of the province.

Accordingly, over the past three years, the student union has mobilized contributions of over 200 million VND in materials and thousands of man-days, coordinating with the people in many mountainous areas to repair, upgrade, and concrete many inter-village roads. They have also donated hundreds of gifts worth tens of millions of VND to families of policy beneficiaries and underprivileged students. In addition, the student volunteer teams of the university actively participated in environmental sanitation activities, lit candles of gratitude at many martyrs' cemeteries; participated in guiding summer activities for teenagers and children; and participated in cultural and sports exchanges, donating gifts to commune youth unions and village youth branches.

With the spirit of "A drop of your blood will bring life to everyone," every year the Youth Union and Student Association of Hong Duc University launch campaigns and promote the meaning and role of humanitarian blood donation. Through these activities, they equip students with basic knowledge about health, responsibility, and the duty of each individual to society and the community. In response to these activities and programs such as "Red Sunday," "Spring Blood Donation Festival," and "Red Journey Connecting Vietnamese Blood," the university sees over 1,000 students register to donate blood each year. These compassionate blood donations from young people have contributed to saving many patients, helping them overcome illness and find joy in life again.

Not only Hong Duc University, but other units such as Thanh Hoa University of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Thanh Hoa College of Health , and Thanh Hoa College of Industry have also launched widespread and effective movements of volunteering for community life among their students. In addition to activities specific to each training unit, such as blood donation; health check-ups and consultations for the poor; and building recreational areas for children, the schools also coordinated large-scale activities. For example, in response to the "Green Summer" student volunteer program in 2024, 53 students from Thanh Hoa University of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Thanh Hoa College of Health, and Thanh Hoa College of Industry, along with members of the Provincial Youth Union's branch, collaborated on many meaningful projects in Nam Xuan commune (formerly Quan Hoa district), such as: supporting the repair of the But Xuan village cultural house, and supporting the renovation of Nam Xuan Kindergarten. The youth group organized tree planting and summer activities for children; participated in environmental cleanup, visited and presented gifts to families receiving preferential treatment and children in difficult circumstances; organized training courses on drowning prevention and basic first aid, distributed free medicine to 200 households, and offered incense at the martyrs' cemetery. These meaningful and practical activities have left a positive impression on the local people.

In reality, the volunteer activities of university and college students not only contribute effectively to social welfare but also serve as a means of training, educating, and building a new generation of young people with a high sense of responsibility, ready to undertake difficult tasks for the benefit of the community. From this perspective, the youth unions and student associations of universities and colleges are determined to continue promoting and comprehensively developing the collective volunteer work for the community in many fields. Through this, they aim to provide more support to the people, especially those in remote areas, in building cultural life and developing the economy , as well as creating an environment for each student to interact, learn, and gain practical experience, fostering revolutionary awareness, ideals, and actions, while simultaneously improving the quality of youth union and student association activities in the schools.
