CAHN CLUB 'S PERSONALITY
The match against Macarthur (on the evening of October 23rd) is a major challenge for CAHN Club in their first foray into the AFC Champions League 2. However, having overcome the challenges in the ASEAN Club Championship last season and the two matches in this season's Asian competition, coach Alexandre Polking's team no longer fears any international opponent.
Against a strong and physically imposing opponent like Macarthur, CAHN Club displayed a distinct style of play. Actively controlling the ball with quick passing and quick one-two combinations, and readily engaging in an open, attacking game, CAHN Club created more opportunities in the first half.
Coach Polking also carefully studied Macarthur's weaknesses, noting that despite their ideal physique, the visiting team's players tended to be slow in their movements and hold onto the ball for too long.

This weakness was thoroughly exploited by CAHN FC in the 30th minute, when center-back Adou Minh unexpectedly advanced forward, pressing and dispossessing the opponent, creating an opportunity for Van Do to run down and score with a diagonal shot. Just 4 seconds elapsed from the moment Adou Minh dispossessed the ball until Macarthur's net was shaken, demonstrating CAHN FC's bold and lightning-fast style of play.
CAHN Club could have scored another goal if they had taken full advantage of their opportunities, such as Vitao's unsuccessful shot from a tight angle, or Dinh Bac's chipped shot across the goal, both stemming from impressive attacks down the left flank by the home team.
A FIERCE BATTLE
In last season's international competition, CAHN FC often paid the price for conceding goals in the final 20 minutes of matches. Coach Polking's players frequently suffered from fatigue and a lack of concentration at crucial moments. Macarthur exploited this weakness to the fullest, starting to put pressure on the opponent in the second half with powerful aerial balls.
Then, goalkeeper Thanh Vinh's net (who came on as a substitute for Nguyen Filip) was shaken by a powerful header from Tomislav Uskok. The 1.96m tall central defender jumped higher than everyone else and headed the ball against the crossbar into the net, leaving the entire CAHN club defense helpless.
In the final minutes, CAHN FC exerted relentless pressure, especially on the left wing where Van Duc repeatedly dribbled from the wing and cut into the center to create scoring opportunities. However, Coach Polking's players continued to squander chances, with shots that weren't difficult enough to overcome Macarthur's multi-layered defense. The match ended in a 1-1 draw, leaving CAHN FC at the top of the table with 5 points, but only one point ahead of the two teams behind them.
Overall, the performance of CAHN FC after the first three matches of the AFC Champions League 2 is commendable. Although they don't have an all-foreign squad, Coach Polking's team, a harmonious blend of domestic players, overseas Vietnamese players, and foreign players, operates smoothly and effectively. However, to progress further in the Asian tournament, CAHN FC cannot simply play well for 70 minutes. Concentration until the very last second needs to be built and maintained, instead of repeating the mistakes that plagued Coach Polking last season.
Coach Polking affirmed that CAHN FC will fight in all four competitions with the same tactics and spirit, not missing out on any contest. However, the packed schedule (especially in the second half of the season) requires the club to have depth in its squad if it wants to go far.
However, at this point, the quality of CAHN's reserve players is questionable. The repeated setbacks in the second half show that coach Polking lacks sufficiently good backup players to compensate for the core group, who have to play in multiple competitions with a frequency of 1-2 matches per week.
CAHN FC will enter the second half of the season next month. To protect their qualification spot against the pressure from the three teams behind them, Quang Hai and his teammates need to work even harder. First and foremost, they need to improve their physical fitness and adjust their concentration to remain strong until the very last seconds.
Next came the problem of wasted opportunities. Under coach Polking, CAHN FC adopted a style of play characterized by control and systematic, coherent attacking football, but finishing remained a problem. Apart from the duo of Leo Artur and Alan Grafite, the former V-League champions lacked a reliable striker to share the goal-scoring burden.
Only by knowing how to save, Mr. Polking and his team will no longer have to regret like in the recent draws.
