"There's nothing significant about it."

Social media is abuzz with the story of a nurse at the Oncology Department of Gia Dinh People's Hospital (Ho Chi Minh City) who allegedly gave a patient 1 million VND and urged them to pay for their medical examination, as shared by the account Huong Do.

In just over a day, the post received more than 16,000 reactions and hundreds of comments and discussions. Below the post, many recognized the person as the Head Nurse of the Oncology Department at Gia Dinh People's Hospital. His enduring legacy over the years is one of kindness, compassion, and thoughtfulness. His story of selfless service spread like a painkiller to patients exhausted by chemotherapy and radiation therapy as they fight for their lives. When we asked to share his story, he declined, saying: "It's nothing, many doctors and medical staff do much more than that."

The actions of the nurses created a significant impact on the community, perhaps thanks to the spread of social media, as such images are quite common. Due to the nature of our work, which involves contact with many doctors, nurses, and patients facing difficult circumstances, we have been fortunate to witness many similar scenes. Doctors and nurses contributing money to buy rice, contributing to hospital fees for poor patients, or giving money to those in heartbreaking situations are very common, especially in specialized departments such as oncology, hemodialysis, and hematology.

Professor-Doctor Nguyen Thi Ngoc Phuong, former Director of Tu Du Hospital, once confided: "The core of a doctor is compassion and understanding the pain of the patient. It is because of this compassion that doctors strive to learn and improve their skills, treating the physical ailments and comforting the emotional well-being of patients. Hospitals are places that witness the pain, exhaustion, and life-or-death separations of people, but at the same time, they are places that nurture kindness. For patients, gentle words and thoughtful guidance from medical staff are the best medicine."

Negative stories about the medical profession still exist, but they don't overshadow the efforts and dedication of each nurse, medical assistant, and doctor fulfilling their mission of saving lives. Like the nurse in the story above, kindness and care for patients is just an ordinary part of everyday life for him, and "nothing remarkable about it."
