To commemorate the 193rd anniversary of the death of General Le Van Duyet, the Ho Chi Minh City Traditional Opera Theatre will perform excerpts from the play San Hau at the Le Van Duyet Mausoleum (No. 1 Vu Tung Street, Gia Dinh Ward, Ho Chi Minh City) at 2 PM on September 22nd.
San Hau, an unforgettable memory in the hearts of fans.
It can be said that the play San Hau is considered a classic in the art of traditional Vietnamese opera and reformed opera, believed to have originated in the latter half of the 18th century. Hundreds of years have passed, but this script is still performed countless times today.
The play extols righteousness, integrity, and the loyalty of loyal officials who dare to confront evil to protect justice.
Currently, in performances for schools and the Ky Yen festival, artists from the Ho Chi Minh City Traditional Opera Theatre still regularly perform excerpts from the play "Ta On Dinh slays Ta" . This is considered a classic performance, embodying the essence, beautiful dance movements, and stylized movements of traditional opera.
The excerpt depicts Ta On Dinh pursuing Khuong Linh Ta and Dong Kim Lan as they escort the young prince back to San Hau city. Khuong Linh Ta distracts the enemy, allowing Dong Kim Lan to escape with the prince, while he alone defends the city and is beheaded by Ta On Dinh.
In this scene, the most impactful moment is when Khương Linh Tá, after being beheaded, still searches for his head to reattach it, striking fear into the hearts of his enemies. This scene demands exceptional acting skill to create a scene that is both symbolic and emotionally resonant for the audience.
Besides San Hau , the theater also performs Phung Nghi Dinh and Le Cong Ky An on the first day of the lunar calendar and the main anniversary of the death of General Le Van Duyet.
