Co Lung strives to build new countryside

Co Lung Commune (Ba Thuoc) promotes its potential and advantages to develop community tourism , associated with new rural construction.

With the starting point of being a particularly difficult commune, with uneven educational levels, fragmented agricultural production, and lack of infrastructure, the Party Committee, government, and people of Co Lung commune encountered many difficulties and obstacles when embarking on the construction of new rural areas. With high political determination, the commune has built a plan to implement specific, systematic, and clear-cut new rural criteria.

In order to create high consensus from the people, the Party committee, the government, the Fatherland Front and the political organizations of the commune have promoted propaganda work on the purpose and significance of the New Rural Construction program for the socio -economic development of the locality. Thanks to good propaganda work, each person and community understands the meaning of the New Rural Construction program as "using the people's strength to care for the people", the people are the subject of New Rural Construction, and also the beneficiaries of the achievements that the New Rural Construction brings. Thereby, many people gradually change their thinking, proactively contribute their efforts and money to implement the New Rural Construction criteria.

Combining the new rural development with community tourism development and taking agriculture as the foundation for local economic development, Co Lung commune has gradually rearranged production towards commodities. In the rice cultivation areas, the commune proactively guides people to implement the method of planting in wide and narrow rows combined with deep fertilizer application. Thanks to that, the productivity and output of rice in Co Lung commune are constantly improved. In 2024, the productivity reached 58 quintals/ha, the output reached more than 1,819 tons.

In addition, the Party Committee, the government, the Fatherland Front, and local political organizations have mobilized the ineffective forests and mixed gardens of households to transform them into fruit orchards with an income of tens of millions of VND per year. Along with that, the commune has integrated support capital from 3 national target programs, including: Socio-economic development program for ethnic minorities and mountainous areas; Sustainable poverty reduction program and New Rural Development Program, to support people in building and replicating the Co Lung duck farming model to supply Pu Luong Ecotourism Area. Economic activities and effective production models have helped the economic life of local people to continuously increase, with average income per capita reaching 35 million VND/person/year, the poverty rate has decreased to 8.99%.

Mr. Nguyen Nam Phong, Chairman of the People's Committee of Co Lung Commune, said: "As a commune located in the buffer zone of Pu Luong Nature Reserve, realizing the potential and inherent advantages to develop eco-tourism, community tourism, and increase income for people, the commune has issued a specialized resolution on "Developing community tourism". In the commune, there are currently 21 households running community guesthouses. In 2024, the commune welcomed 16,800 visitors to visit and stay at tourist spots and areas in the area. And the revenue from service and tourism activities reached 8.4 billion VND, creating regular jobs for more than 100 local workers. Thanks to that, the people in the commune actively join hands to contribute money and effort to build new rural areas".

In 2024, the total capital mobilized to implement the new rural construction of Co Lung commune will reach over 9,912 billion VND. From the mobilized capital, the commune has focused on investing in the construction of essential infrastructure works, such as building the cultural houses of Lac village and Ten Moi village, upgrading the commune's stadium, and building roads to Hieu waterfall. The infrastructure works built and upgraded not only effectively serve the task of local socio-economic development, but are also changing the face of Co Lung countryside. Up to this point, Co Lung commune has achieved 12/19 new rural criteria.

Although there are many difficulties ahead, the Party Committee, government and people of Co Lung commune continue to unite, determined to successfully carry out the task of building new rural areas in the soonest time.
