In recent years, arranged marriages have become popular in China, but these marriages often carry great risks.
Decided to find a wife for his son
In June this year, Mr. Wang, a villager in Hubei Province (China), wanted his only son to get married soon, so he went to a local matchmaking company. However, this seemingly good decision made the whole family regret it.
Through the cooperation between a matchmaking company in Hubei and a matchmaking company in Guiyang, Mr. Wang’s son was introduced to a girl named Yu on a blind date. At the end of June, the entire Wang family went to Guiyang together. The blind date went very smoothly, opening up new hopes for the family.
According to Mr. Vuong: “The first impression of that girl was really good. When we met, we felt that she was a gentle and soft-spoken person, so we felt secure.
That same evening, our family agreed and signed a contract with the matchmaking company, and paid a deposit of 20,000 NDT (nearly 70 million VND).”
On July 1, after paying 150,000 yuan (about 520 million VND) in service fees to a matchmaking company in Guiyang and 148,000 yuan (about 513 million VND) in dowry to Ms. Du, the two officially registered their marriage on July 2.
The unexpected change from the new bride
However, what completely surprised Mr. Vuong's family was that just two days after Ms. Du followed them back to Hubei, she made an excuse that she needed to return to Guiyang to finish her last month of work and immediately left.

During this period, Ms. Yu also used the excuse of inviting friends and colleagues to eat out, having no money for living expenses, and needing to pay a contract termination fee due to leaving work to ask Mr. Wang’s son to give her an additional 20,000 yuan. However, by the end of August, after Ms. Yu returned to Hubei, her attitude had completely changed.
"On August 21, she told us that she had found a job at a karaoke bar," Mr. Vuong said.
Mr. Wang's son went to the KTV to verify, but was informed that Ms. Yu was not currently working there. Since then, Mr. Wang's family and Ms. Yu's family have often had conflicts.
“After that, we started to feel that this girl had a problem. I suspected that she came here to cheat on us, because in reality, the two of them were not married,” he added.
Investigate the truth and demand justice
Seeing the situation getting more and more serious, Mr. Wang could not sit still. In September, he returned to Guiyang alone and went to Ms. Yu's hometown in Qingzhen City to investigate her actual situation.
Through investigation, he discovered that Ms. Du had actually quit her job before the blind date. Therefore, the 20,000 yuan she requested for the reason of organizing a party to invite colleagues was not used for this purpose. Through these unusual behaviors, Mr. Vuong realized that his family might have been deceived.
Mr. Vuong continued: “She said she wasn’t lying, but when I played the recording of her hometown’s inquiries to the matchmaking company, she knew she couldn’t hide it anymore and ran away. We haven’t seen her since.”
After the incident, Mr. Wang went to the matchmaking company to ask for an explanation. The company refunded the 150,000 yuan service fee to his family.
Mr. Vuong also sued the local court. Fortunately, thanks to the court's mediation, Ms. Du agreed to return part of the dowry, about 120,000 NDT (about 416 million VND).
However, after the reconciliation session, Ms. Du not only did not fulfill her promise but also completely "evaporated" from life, completely cutting off contact with Mr. Vuong's family.
Mr. Vuong shared in pain: “My family has completely collapsed. This trauma is not just a little bit anymore. My wife is now in an unstable mental state. As for my son, he has moved out since that incident. For the past few months, he has not been able to recover, he is very haggard and emaciated.”
Faced with this situation, Mr. Vuong hopes that Ms. Du will take the initiative to take responsibility. If the matter is still not resolved, he affirms that he will resolutely use legal measures to protect his family's rights.
The story of this family is a painful but necessary lesson to warn about the potential risks in marriage through matchmaking. Marriage needs to be built on a foundation of trust, sincerity, and mutual understanding. Therefore, families and individuals should always be alert and cautious before making major decisions in life.
