My son is completely devastated.

In recent years, arranged marriages have become common in China, but these marriages often carry significant risks.

The decision to find a wife for my son.

In June of this year, Mr. Wang, a villager from Hubei Province (China), hoping his only son would get married soon, sought the help of a local matchmaking company. However, this seemingly good decision ended up causing regret for the entire family.

Through a collaboration between a matchmaking company in Hubei and one in Guiyang, Mr. Wang's son was introduced to a girl surnamed Yu for a blind date. At the end of June, the entire Wang family traveled to Guiyang, and the blind date went very smoothly, opening up new hopes for the family.

According to Mr. Wang's account: "Our initial impression of the girl was really good. When we met her, we felt she was a gentle and soft-spoken person, so we felt at ease."

That same evening, our family agreed and signed a contract with the matchmaking company, paying a deposit of 20,000 RMB (approximately 70 million VND).

On July 1st, after paying 150,000 RMB (approximately 520 million VND) in service fees to the matchmaking company in Guiyang and 148,000 RMB (approximately 513 million VND) as a dowry to Ms. Yu, the two officially registered their marriage on July 2nd.

The unexpected transformation of the new bride.

However, what completely surprised Mr. Wang's family was that just two days after Ms. Yu returned to Hubei with them, she used the excuse of needing to return to Guiyang to finish her last month of work and immediately left.

During this time, Ms. Yu also used the excuse of inviting friends and colleagues to eat, lacking living expenses, and needing to pay severance pay for leaving her job to request an additional 20,000 RMB from Mr. Wang's son. However, by the end of August, after Ms. Yu returned to Hubei, her attitude had completely changed.

Mr. Wang said: "On August 21st, she told us that she had found a job at a karaoke bar."

Mr. Wang's son went to the KTV to verify the information, but was informed that Ms. Yu was no longer working there. Since then, Mr. Wang's family and Ms. Yu have frequently had conflicts.

He added: "After that, we started to feel that there was something wrong with this girl. I suspected she came here to trick us into marriage, because in reality, the two of them weren't living as husband and wife."

Investigate the truth and seek justice.

Seeing the situation escalating, Mr. Wang couldn't sit idly by. In September, he returned to Guiyang alone and went to Ms. Yu's hometown in Qingzhen City to investigate her situation.

Upon investigation, he discovered that Ms. Yu had actually quit her job before the blind date. Therefore, the 20,000 yuan she requested, claiming it was for a party to invite colleagues, was never used for that purpose. These unusual circumstances led Mr. Wang to realize that his family had likely been deceived.

Mr. Vuong continued, “She said she wasn’t lying, but when I played the audio recording of inquiries from people in her hometown to the matchmaking company, she realized she couldn’t hide it any longer and ran away. We haven’t seen her since.”

Following the incident, Mr. Wang contacted the matchmaking company to request an explanation. The company subsequently refunded the 150,000 RMB service fee to his family.

Mr. Wang also filed a lawsuit in the local court, and fortunately, thanks to the court's mediation, Ms. Du agreed to return a portion of the dowry, approximately 120,000 RMB (about 416 million VND).

However, after the mediation, Ms. Du not only failed to keep her promise but also completely disappeared from Mr. Vuong's life, cutting off all contact with him.

Mr. Vuong shared in anguish: “My family has been completely devastated. This trauma is no longer just minor. My wife is now in a state of mental instability. And my son has moved out since the incident. For the past few months, he hasn't been able to recover; he's become very haggard and worn out.”

Given this situation, Mr. Wang hopes that Ms. Yu will proactively take responsibility. If the matter remains unresolved, he affirms that he will resolutely use legal means to protect his family's rights.

This family's story is a heartbreaking but necessary lesson, warning about the potential risks of arranged marriages. Marriage needs to be built on a foundation of trust, sincerity, and mutual understanding. Therefore, families and individuals should always be vigilant and cautious before making major life decisions.
