The consumer price index in June 2024 increased by 0.17% compared to the previous month, with 8 groups of goods and services experiencing price increases and 3 groups experiencing price decreases.
The increase in pork prices due to African swine fever in some localities, and the adjustment of medical service prices in some provinces/cities according to Circular No. 22/2023/TT-BYT of the Ministry of Health, are the main reasons for the 0.17% increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in June 2024 compared to the previous month. Compared to December 2023, the CPI in June increased by 1.40%, and compared to the same period last year, it increased by 4.34%.
The average CPI for the second quarter of 2024 increased by 4.39% compared to the second quarter of 2023. For the first six months of 2024, the average CPI increased by 4.08% year-on-year; core inflation increased by 2.75%.
The groups of goods and services with increasing price indices include: Food and food services, which increased most significantly at 0.75%; Culture, entertainment and tourism, which increased by 0.68%; Medicine and medical services, which increased by 0.6%; Housing, electricity, water, fuel and building materials, which increased by 0.35%; Beverages and tobacco, which increased by 0.17%; Household equipment and appliances, which increased by 0.09%; Other goods and services, which increased by 0.05%; and Postal and telecommunications services, which increased by 0.02%.
Groups with declining price indices: Education group decreased by 0.01%; Clothing, hats and footwear group decreased by 0.11%; Transportation group decreased by 2.27%.
