A nearly 100-year-old woman with a passion for reading.

(Baohatinh.vn) - While many young people show little interest in books, the story of a 96-year-old woman in Loc Ha commune (Ha Tinh province) who considers reading a daily pleasure is truly thought-provoking regarding reading culture.

Reading became a habit and a passion for Mrs. Tho.

At the age of 96, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Tho (from Loc Ha commune) has no need for entertainment using audiovisual equipment. What she cherishes every day are books, especially books about President Ho Chi Minh and the revolution.

Ms. Tho said: "I love reading, I read one book after another. Whatever book my grandchildren bring home, I read it right away. Sometimes, even before they bring them home, I take the opportunity to reread old books… For example, I've read 'The Green Lotus Bud' three times already."

Grandma Thơ reads a wide variety of books.

At nearly 100 years old, reading is already difficult for many elderly people, but what surprises everyone even more is that Mrs. Tho can read without glasses.

"Many people are surprised and ask why I don't wear glasses to see clearly. I reply that if my eyes can see clearly, why would I need glasses?" Mrs. Tho said cheerfully.

The statement is both witty and thought-provoking. Because behind it lies not just good eyesight, but a state of mental clarity and vibrant energy.

Điều đáng trân quý là ở tuổi 96 nhưng cụ Thơ vẫn đọc sách mà không cần kính.
What's truly admirable is that at the age of 96, Mrs. Tho can still read books without glasses.

Ms. Dang Thi Bien (80 years old, Loc Ha commune) couldn't hide her admiration: "I'm 16 years younger than Mr. Tho, and now my eyesight is very poor; I can barely watch TV, let alone read books. During the day, Mr. Tho reads, and in the evening, he visits his neighbors and the stories he tells sometimes make people forget the time."

Grandchildren and neighbors often heard Grandma Tho tell stories from the books she had read.

For her descendants, Mrs. Tho was also a "living treasure trove of knowledge," overflowing with valuable stories and experiences. Mrs. Nguyen Thi Huong (Mrs. Tho's daughter) shared: "Every book she read was recounted vividly and intimately, as if naturally passing on her passion to future generations. We now forget what we read, but my mother remembers it for a very long time, remembering one book after another..."

Sitting in her familiar chair, Mrs. Tho regularly reads books every day.

Grandma Thơ remembers the contents of the books she has read very clearly.

Amidst a reading culture gradually being overshadowed by digital devices, the story of a 96-year-old woman who is passionate about reading is very meaningful. This beautiful cultural trait needs to be spread and emulated. What is even more valuable is not the number of books Ms. Nguyen Thi Tho has read, but the way she lives with books, viewing reading as a beneficial activity.
