Palmer broke his toe. |
The England star has struggled with a groin injury all season, appearing in just three of the 11 Premier League games. Palmer has been absent since leaving the field after just 21 minutes of the 2-1 defeat to Manchester United in September. Coach Enzo Maresca admitted he misjudged his player's recovery, but remains optimistic that Palmer will not need surgery and is getting closer to his return.
However, just as things were looking up, Chelsea were dealt another blow. Palmer broke his toe after hitting a door at home, an accident that manager Maresca described as very unfortunate and completely unexpected.
"He's almost fully recovered from his groin injury, but now he has this problem. He has a broken toe," Maresca said at a press conference on the evening of November 21. "Palmer is definitely out this week and next week. Barcelona or Arsenal? Maybe then we'll know more."
According to Sky Sports, Palmer broke his left toe after accidentally hitting a door. Although he has just returned to light training at Cobham, he will still have to postpone at least 3 more matches, at a time when Chelsea are in 3rd place and 6 points behind Arsenal.
The accident added to Palmer's frustration. After winning the England player of the season award and helping Chelsea win the Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup, he missed most of the early part of the season due to injury. His suspension also put his chances of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup in jeopardy.
