Delegates pose for a commemorative photo at the announcement ceremony on the morning of January 17th.
While acquiring FV Hospital gave Thomson Medical Group a strategic position in the promising Vietnamese market, this turning point for FV opens a new era for the hospital. The entire leadership team and medical staff will continue to work together, affirming the hospital's reputation and aiming for even greater goals in the future. The captain – Dr. Jean-Marcel Guillon – and the team he has built and developed over the past two decades will continue to steer the FV ship towards new horizons.
Mr. Kiat Lim - Executive Vice President of Thomson Healthcare Group and Dr. Jean-Marcel Guillon - General Director of FV Hospital shook hands to announce FV as a member of Thomson Healthcare Group.
This is the largest M&A deal ever in the healthcare sector in Vietnam.
Both international and domestic media outlets have acknowledged that "FV becoming a member of Thomson" is the largest M&A deal ever in the healthcare sector in Vietnam, and also the largest acquisition in this sector in Southeast Asia since 2020.
This deal marks the official entry into Vietnam of Thomson Medical Group – one of Southeast Asia's leading listed healthcare companies with operations in Singapore and Malaysia.
The bidding process was highly competitive with many interested parties, including a large proportion of private equity firms, but Thomson Healthcare Group, as a strategic investor with a long-term vision, successfully reached its goal. Thomson's bid stood out due to its longer-term investment vision and focus on creating a positive impact on the community and a broader scale of healthcare in Vietnam. This transaction also demonstrates the attractiveness of Vietnam's promising healthcare market and gives Thomson Healthcare Group a presence in three of Southeast Asia's most important healthcare destinations: Singapore, Malaysia, and Vietnam.
Creating a strategic position opens the way for development and investment.
Mr. Kiat Lim, Executive Vice President of Thomson Healthcare Group, said: “The acquisition of FV Hospital expands our presence in three of Southeast Asia’s most important geographic regions for healthcare, giving us access to a growing market and abundant talent, while also creating significant strides into neighboring countries such as Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar. Similar to the long-standing relationship between Singapore and Vietnam, I look forward to the strong partnership between Thomson Healthcare Group and FV Hospital continuing to grow year after year to enhance healthcare quality in Vietnam and Southeast Asia.”
Mr. Kiat Lim, Executive Vice President of Thomson Healthcare Group, spoke at the event.
Mr. Melvin Heng – CEO of Thomson Healthcare Group shared: “This transaction is not just a collaboration between two organizations, but also an integration of expertise, a combination of talent, and a partnership between two giants in the healthcare field with a common goal. I look forward to working closely with Dr. Guillon and his team to build upon the strengths of FV Hospital and leverage Thomson’s extensive expertise to make FV the number one hospital in Indochina.”
Mr. Melvin Heng – CEO of Thomson Healthcare Group
Founded by Dr. Jean-Marcel Guillon and a group of French doctors, FV Hospital began operations in 2003, initiating the trend of attracting FDI into the medical sector in Vietnam. FV boasts state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, employing over 1,500 staff, including 236 highly trained, dynamic, and dedicated doctors capable of treating even the most complex cases across 36 specialties (internal medicine and surgery). The FV team operates under the motto "patient-centered" and aspires to become "Asia's leading healthcare provider."
FV Hospital can be considered a successful foreign investment project in the healthcare sector, annually receiving and treating nearly 250,000 patients, 25% of whom are foreigners living and working in Vietnam. Before FV, these patients had to fly to Singapore, Thailand, or even be transferred back to their home countries for treatment. Now, as a member of the Thomson Healthcare Group, FV has become an even more reliable treatment center for a large number of international patients, thereby contributing to enhancing the reputation of Vietnam's healthcare industry, meeting the growing demand for medical care among domestic residents, and attracting a large number of international tourists to Vietnam for healthcare, thus increasing foreign exchange earnings.
Professor Tran Van Thuan, Deputy Minister of Health, delivered a speech at the event.
Attending the ceremony announcing "FV as a member of Thomson Medical Group," Professor Tran Van Thuan, Vice Minister of Health, emphasized : "Today I am very pleased to attend the event where FV Hospital officially becomes a member of the Thomson Medical Group. First, on behalf of the Minister of Health, I would like to extend my congratulations to the hospital and its leaders, and wish everyone good health and happiness… The view of the Party, the Government , and the Ministry of Health is that we do not differentiate between public and private hospitals; we strongly encourage private healthcare to receive investment from international corporations. And today, FV officially becomes a member of Thomson, which is not only a joy for the hospital but also a joy for the Ministry of Health."
We are aware that FV Hospital has been operating for 20 years under the leadership of its management team, and that FV is one of only six hospitals in Vietnam to receive JCI certification, while also ranking among the top 10 high-quality hospitals as assessed by the Department of Health. With the potential of the Thomson Healthcare Group, we are fully confident that FV Hospital will continue to develop even more strongly. We hope the group will continue its research to expand its presence not only in Ho Chi Minh City but also in other provinces and cities. Recently, during the national healthcare network planning, we included two major cities, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, in a healthcare complex comprising hospitals, schools, pharmacies, research institutes, and technical production facilities, located in Long An (near Ho Chi Minh City) and Bac Ninh (near Hanoi). If the corporation is interested in a particular locality, we will be ready to assist with the procedures of the Ministry of Health for investment and development.
Currently, the healthcare network relies primarily on public and government investment. However, resources are generally limited, so we are very much hoping for investment from the private sector, especially from large corporations. We believe that private investment in healthcare will help improve the quality of medical care for the community. And not only public hospitals but also private hospitals will develop together. We also hope that Thomson and FV will share their experience in hospital management and operation. We wish FV Hospital continued growth and success in monitoring and protecting the health of the people together.”
Mr. Kho Ngee Seng Roy - Consul General of Singapore, speaking at the event.
Singapore's Consul General, Mr. Kho Ngee Seng Roy, stated: “Singapore has been a leading investor in Vietnam for many years. The merger of FV Hospital into Thomson Healthcare Group is clear evidence of Vietnam's increasingly important role in the region, as well as its ability to attract foreign direct investment and the close trade ties between the two countries. The cross-border cooperation, knowledge sharing, and shared goal of improving healthcare systems, which both Thomson Healthcare Group and FV Hospital are pursuing, is also a prime example of the heights that both countries can achieve through collaboration.”
Dr. Jean-Marcel Guillon will continue as the General Director of FV.
Dr. Jean-Marcel Guillon, General Director of FV Hospital, shared: “This is an incredibly proud moment for FV Hospital, affirming our journey of more than two decades of continuous building and development, becoming a leading facility in the Vietnamese healthcare sector. Now, supported by the resources of Thomson Healthcare Group and through shared leadership values, we will have a faster growth trajectory, propelling us towards even bigger goals.”
I, along with the Board of Directors and all the staff of FV Hospital, will remain and continue to develop FV with Thomson Healthcare Group, ushering in a new era for even stronger growth for FV. Today, I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Kiat, Melvin, and all the members of the Board of Directors and the management team of Thomson for their trust in me and in the FV team, which has led us to where we are today.”
According to Dr. Jean-Marcel Guillon, by integrating into Thomson's world-class healthcare network, FV Hospital will continuously improve its diagnostic and treatment capabilities, constantly updating its advanced equipment to better serve its patients and the community!
