"I dream of becoming a border guard officer, and my younger brother will join the navy. My brother and I want to train and dedicate ourselves to the military for the long term, contributing our efforts to protecting the borders and islands of our homeland," Mạnh Hảo said about their shared dreams.
The twins are identical, even their hairstyles are the same, their interests and thoughts are often expressed in exactly the same way, the only difference being their middle names to easily distinguish them.
Perhaps that's why even choosing a military career became a shared ideal for the two brothers.
Because he cherishes the image of Uncle Ho's soldiers, Manh Hao is always fascinated by any program about soldiers and goes to great lengths to find more information about them.
Although he applied to an officer school, Mạnh Hảo didn't score high enough to be admitted. But the dream of wearing a soldier's uniform never stopped burning within him.
Manh Hao said he felt fortunate to have volunteered for military service and been selected, so he will strive to do his best to become a border guard in the future.
Mai Hao, his twin brother, was not to be outdone by his older brother; he also volunteered and was selected in this recruitment round. Mai Hao boasted that he really liked the "white uniform of the seagull" worn by naval soldiers, and hoped to fulfill his dream of venturing out to the remote islands of the homeland.
"I think a military career is my dream. I want to set foot on Truong Sa Island or be stationed at the DK1 platform, patrolling and guarding alongside my comrades, protecting every sacred maritime sovereignty marker of our Fatherland," Mai Hao shared.
Welcoming guests into his modest house, Mr. Hoang Bui Hong - the father of twin sons named Hao - said that he used to be a soldier stationed in Gia Lam ( Hanoi ).
The family has three sons; the eldest is currently studying and training at the Military School of Military Region 7. "The two sons joining the army will, on the one hand, continue the family tradition, and on the other hand, allow them to strive and train to become officers and serve in the military for a long time."
"That is the greatest wish and joy of our family," Mr. Hong said with a smile.
Those twin brothers are among more than 270 young men from Vung Tau City who have voluntarily submitted applications to enlist in the military during this year's recruitment season.
Today (February 27th), Mạnh Hảo and Mai Hảo will say goodbye to their families to begin their military service, fulfilling their childhood dreams.
The older brother loves the forest, the younger brother longs for the sea. Although they know there will be many difficulties and initial unfamiliarity, the disciplined environment of the military is what both of them yearn to experience, and they are ready for the months of training and to become soldiers of Uncle Ho's army in the near future.
