Former Miss Bolivia arrested.

Former Miss Bolivia and her Brazilian pilot boyfriend Carlos Díaz were arrested on January 23 after their Cessna 210 landed in Ibicuy, a rural town in Entre Ríos province, northeastern Argentina.

Authorities found approximately 359 kg of cocaine, divided into 352 packages, inside the plane.

Former Miss Bolivia Jade Callaú was caught transporting a shipment of cocaine worth $2.3 million.

Security Minister Nestor Roncaglia told Argentina's Clarín newspaper that the couple took off from Bolivia and flew about 1,500 km before realizing the plane was running out of fuel and had to make an emergency landing.

He believed they might have flown to Buenos Aires, as they were only about a 10-minute flight from the capital's airspace.

Roncaglia said investigators are looking into whether Callaú is the daughter of a Bolivian drug lord.

However, it was revealed that she is related to Jorge Granier, who was arrested in Brazil in March 2023 and subsequently extradited to Argentina, where he is facing drug trafficking charges, including providing aircraft to local drug dealers.

Callaú tried to prevent the arrest by telling the police that she was pregnant and needed to be taken to the hospital, Roncaglia said.

The former beauty queen is accused of attempting to bribe police with $60,000.

"We work all day, from very early in the morning, so we can help our children. We have four children, three girls and one boy. Callaú is the oldest. Ms. Barriga recalled that the last time she spoke to Callaú was on January 20th, and she had no feeling that her daughter was involved in any illegal transactions.

"I don't know what happened to her, maybe she was deceived. Obviously, if that's the case, she made the wrong decision, but Jade was a simple, humble, and friendly girl," the distraught mother expressed.

"The truth is, I learned about this through the news on television and couldn't believe it. What I'm certain of is that Jade is not involved in drug trafficking, as people say in Argentina... This is the first time," Barriga added.

Jade Callaú was crowned Miss FexpoBorja 2019 in San Borja and has appeared on television numerous times.
