Former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has passed away.

This information has been confirmed by a spokesperson for Mr. Berlusconi, according to the Daily Mail.

Mr. Berlusconi had suffered from chronic leukemia "for some time" and recently developed a lung infection. He was hospitalized in Milan on April 5th due to a lung infection stemming from this disease. He had previously suffered from heart disease, prostate cancer, and was hospitalized for COVID-19 in 2020.

The most recent photo of him that was released was taken when he was discharged from the hospital on May 19th.

Former Prime Minister Berlusconi, born on September 29, 1936, has faced numerous scandals and trials related to allegations of tax evasion and sexual misconduct.

Italian media reported on June 12 that former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi had died at the age of 86 at San Raffaele Hospital in Milan.

Mr. Berlusconi is a major shareholder of Mediaset, Italy's largest commercial television broadcaster. As of June 2023, his net worth was estimated at around $7 billion. He also owned the Italian football club AC Milan from 1986 to 2017.

Berlusconi led several governments , from 1994 to 1995, 2001 to 2006, and 2008 to 2011, and since 2019 has been a member of the European Parliament, where he previously served from 1999 to 2001.

Nine years as prime minister made him the third longest-serving head of government in Italy, after only Benito Mussolini and Giovanni Giolitti. His death could significantly alter the dynamics of Italian politics in the coming months.

According to CNBC, Berlusconi has been married twice and has five children.
