THE DIVERSE MARKET FOR TET GIFTS

These days, the shopping atmosphere in the central streets has started to liven up. Grocery stores have transformed into "springtime treasure troves" with hundreds of gift basket designs.

People are choosing to buy Tet gift baskets at Go! My Tho Shopping Center.

While gift baskets used to typically only contain cakes, jams, tea, and wine, the market has changed significantly. Sellers no longer simply package goods, but also design Tet gifts tailored to specific recipients: parents, business partners, clients, teachers, or colleagues.

This year's Tet gift basket market shows a clear diversity in price segments. Depending on their needs and financial capabilities, consumers can easily choose gift baskets ranging in price from a few hundred thousand dong to several million dong.

At the Department Store in Ward 1 (My Tho Ward, Dong Thap Province), gift baskets priced at a few hundred thousand dong are a popular choice among customers. Ms. Le Thi Thu Thao (resident of Dao Thanh Ward) said that this year, she prioritizes choosing gift baskets with reasonable prices and products for daily use.

"I've seen many gift baskets that are affordably priced but still contain essential items like tea, coffee, cakes, and quality dried foods. For me, Tet gifts don't need to be expensive; what's important is that they are useful and meet the recipient's needs."

The Department Store in Ward 1 (My Tho Ward) has prepared many gift baskets to serve the people.

"This year, stores and supermarkets have designed quite attractive gift baskets that suit various budgets and needs, making it easy to choose," Thao shared.

According to observations, from the beginning of the twelfth lunar month, many supermarkets such as Co.opmart My Tho and Go! My Tho Commercial and Service Center have dedicated a prominent space to the Tet gift section.

The gift baskets are displayed attractively, mainly containing essential products that can be used daily.

More than just a gift to wish someone a happy New Year, gift baskets today are also seen as a subtle way of expressing care and taste, reflecting modern consumer trends.

While in the past gift baskets often focused on cakes, jams, candies, and imported wines, this year consumers are prioritizing practical products that are beneficial to health and have clear origins.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan (Trung An ward, Dong Thap province) shared: “I find the supermarket gift baskets to have many beautiful and elegant designs, with clearly listed prices and traceable products; many products are good for health and the prices haven't increased. I often buy a few baskets to give to relatives, teachers, and professors during the Lunar New Year.”

Besides buying ready-made items, customers can also choose their own products and have staff wrap them according to their preferences. This method is becoming increasingly popular because it shows the thoughtfulness of the giver.

A WIDE VARIETY OF TYPES

Unlike in the past, when gift baskets mainly consisted of sweets, soft drinks, and alcohol, Tet gift baskets today are much more diverse. At the display counter, one can see many product categories: Traditional baskets: Cakes, jams, tea, coffee; Nutritional baskets: Nuts, bird's nest, honey; Vietnamese specialty baskets: Dried goods, traditional cakes, dried fruits; Premium baskets: Wine, imported food.

According to the sales staff, buyers now prioritize quality and functionality, rather than chasing after large sizes as before. Mr. Tran Quoc Viet (an office worker) said: “I choose baskets with nuts and tea or baskets with various types of bird's nest because they are suitable for the elderly. Buying something that can be used completely is what makes it meaningful.”

A highlight this year is the increased consumer interest in Vietnamese products. Many gift baskets include OCOP products, regional specialties, and clean food.

Nguyen Trung Nghia, Director of Go! My Tho Trade Center, said: “In the past few days, people's purchasing power for Vietnamese goods has clearly increased. Tet cakes and jams are attracting people, especially OCOP products. Consumers prioritize domestic products that are both high-quality and reasonably priced.”

In addition, Go! My Tho Shopping Center has prepared its 2026 Tet gift supply plan well in advance to ensure an abundant supply, stable quality, and reasonable prices.

Go! My Tho works closely with reputable suppliers, prioritizing high-quality Vietnamese products to bring consumers safe and practical Tet cakes and candies for both gifting and family use.”

The highlight of Go! My Tho's Tet gift baskets this year is the wide variety of designs and price ranges, meeting the needs of many customer groups, from individuals to businesses.

The products in the gift baskets are selected according to the criteria of "sufficient - appropriate - economical," ensuring clear origin, elegant packaging, and suitability to Vietnamese gift-giving culture.

Observations show that this year, many people are buying gifts earlier than usual for Tet (Lunar New Year). This is due to the desire to avoid the cold weather, to manage finances proactively, and to worry about shortages closer to Tet. Supermarkets are also implementing early promotions and weekly discounts, helping people save money.

Thanks to the proactive involvement of retailers and the early shopping habits of consumers, the market for Tet gift baskets this year is predicted to be even more vibrant in the coming period.

Besides meeting the ever-increasing demand for gift-giving, the diverse and eye-catching gift basket designs also contribute to making the traditional Lunar New Year more meaningful.
