Since the beginning of the year, the province has experienced periods of heavy rain and storms with complex developments, affecting the operation of the power grid. In particular, in September, the impact of Typhoon No. 3 and its remnants caused heavy rain, flooding, and landslides in many areas, affecting the power grid in the province due to broken and fallen poles and damaged substations. Phu Tho Power Company quickly implemented a remediation plan, directing its subordinate power branches to mobilize all personnel, materials, and equipment to the scene to carry out repairs and khắc phục the damage. By mid-September, the power outages were basically resolved, and electricity was restored to customers.
Forecasts indicate that from now until the end of the year, the weather patterns, storms, and natural disasters will remain unpredictable, complex, and erratic. Therefore, ensuring a safe and stable electricity supply during the year-end period and having contingency plans for disaster prevention and control are top priorities for the power sector. The company is implementing comprehensive solutions, from technical management and operation to investment in power grid construction. This includes reviewing and strengthening the power grid, upgrading and renovating overloaded power lines and substations; and addressing grid defects to prevent incidents and ensure sufficient power supply when demand increases, minimizing power outages due to incidents.
Comrade Pham Van Chuc - Deputy Director of Phu Tho Power Company, said: “The company is strengthening measures to ensure safe and stable electricity supply for customers, enhancing technical management solutions, grid operation, electrical safety, reducing power losses, preventing subjective incidents and fires, and minimizing objective incidents in management and operation. At the same time, we are accelerating the construction progress of power projects, continuing to carry out work to consolidate and repair the power grid, and are ready to ensure stable electricity supply.”
In the first nine months of the year, Phu Tho Power Company's commercial electricity output reached over 3.1 billion kWh, a 12% increase compared to the same period in 2023. Of this, the construction industry accounted for the largest share at over 62%; consumer management accounted for over 31%, and the remainder came from other sectors. As the year draws to a close, businesses are entering a crucial production phase to complete their annual plans and prepare goods for the Tet holiday; therefore, ensuring a reliable electricity supply, especially in industrial zones and clusters, is very important.
Ensuring electricity supply is closely linked to electrical safety, a matter of particular concern for the power sector. Phu Tho Power Company actively promotes and disseminates measures for safe and economical electricity use to customers. They continue to spread the message "Saving electricity becomes a habit"; advise customers to limit electricity use during peak hours; and regularly inspect and maintain electrical equipment that has been in use for a long time to promptly detect, address, or replace faulty equipment, preventing short circuits that could lead to safety hazards and energy losses.
Besides the efforts of the electricity sector, each citizen needs to raise awareness of safe, efficient, and economical electricity use, as well as fire prevention and control, to avoid overloading and unsafe conditions in the power grid.
