Upon hearing the news of the General Secretary's passing, the people here were deeply saddened as the country lost a brilliant leader, and Lai Da village lost a son who always cared deeply for his homeland.

These days, without being asked, the people of Lai Da village and the entire Dong Hoi commune are voluntarily cleaning up the environment and ensuring security and order to prepare for welcoming the family members of the General Secretary and other delegations visiting their hometown, and to light incense sticks to bid farewell to the leader.
Ms. Nguyen Kim Chi, a teacher at Ngo Quyen Secondary School (Dong Hoi commune), said that from the afternoon of July 19th, the elderly members of the senior citizens' association, the women's association members, the youth union members, and teachers from various schools, including Ngo Quyen Secondary School, joined together to clean up the village roads, alleys, and places of worship, cultural centers, etc.

Ms. Chi said that her hometown has a tradition of valuing education, especially Lai Da village, which has a tradition of high academic achievement. Speaking about the General Secretary, Ms. Chi said that although they weren't born in the same era, she was impressed by his humility, simplicity, impartiality, and selflessness, and that he was a shining example of lifelong learning. "I also heard that he was a brilliant student from a young age. Despite hardships, he continued to study and strive tirelessly. Even in his old age, he never rested for his homeland, his country, and his people," Ms. Chi said, adding that the people of Lai Da village always cherish and are proud of the General Secretary.

The Bodhi tree, propagated from the Great Stupa (Bodhi Gaya - India), was brought back by the General Secretary during his trip to India in 2010. On the occasion of the village festival in 2014, officials and people of Lai Da village received and planted this tree at the Lai Da communal house.
