Dedicated to the profession with all my heart.

To date, I have worked in journalism for over 15 years. Looking back, those 15 years have been challenging but also filled with joy and pride. Each day that passes, I continue to move forward, continue to learn, and write new stories, with unwavering love for the profession.

For me, journalism isn't just about watching, listening, and typing. Instead, it's about journeys, experiences to see things firsthand, deeply feel the emotions, and gather accurate information, then recounting it with the heart and feelings of someone directly involved.

Throughout my career, I have never shied away from difficulties or hardships, daring to experience even extremely risky activities to capture the most authentic images and emotions.

I remember that back in August 2022, my colleague and I decided to register for a zip-line waterfall experience at Love Waterfall, Hoang Lien National Park (Sa Pa town) to create a multimedia presentation about Lao Cai's new tourism product, aiming to attract international tourists and adventure sports enthusiasts.

I can't forget the thrill, the shivers, the pounding heart as I clung to the rope and slid down from the top of the nearly 40-meter-high waterfall. But in the end, we completed it safely and produced an emotional article with vivid images on the subject.

These experiences not only provided me with more material for writing articles and creating diverse journalistic products, but also taught me how to perceive life, not just with my eyes, but with my heart. A journalist who only sees without feeling, who only listens without understanding, will find their writing lacks the breath of life.

During my years as a journalist, I have faced natural disasters many times, but never have I felt such intense emotions as during the historic floods of September 2024.

During those days, when the floodwaters rose, my colleagues and I received orders to approach the Red River embankment area to conduct live streams to provide quick information and warnings about the dangers. We did about 5 live stream sessions, from when the water level was still 1 meter from the edge of the embankment, until the water overflowed the embankment, flooding many residential areas on both sides of the river.

When comments poured in expressing worry, panic, pleas for help, and thanks for the timely information… it made me feel my responsibility more acutely than ever.

I still remember, during a livestream at the relief distribution point in Pho Rang town, Bao Yen district, amidst the chaotic news, I received a plea for help from people in Nu village; they needed white cloth for the burial of their deceased loved ones. I was speechless, a feeling of sorrow gripping my heart.

In the following days, I continued to conduct a series of live broadcasts, reporting on the convoys of volunteer vehicles venturing into landslide and flood-affected areas, braving danger to deliver relief supplies to the people.

For me, those days of storms and floods were a lesson in compassion, the power of community, and above all, the courage of a journalist and the value of dedication.

Throughout my journalistic career, I've had many memorable encounters. But the unexpected, exciting, and deeply moving meeting between me and my colleagues with writer and journalist Ma Van Khang in Hanoi in November 2024 was truly a memorable experience and a stroke of luck I've had in my professional life.

At nearly 90 years old and having been away from Lao Cai for almost half a century, he still remembers the smallest details of events from nearly 70 years ago – when he first set foot in Lao Cai. Through the writer's recollections, images of Lao Cai from those bygone days unfold like a slow-motion film, gradually appearing in the listener's mind.

Meeting writer Ma Van Khang (Part 1)
Portrait of journalist Ma Van Khang

The recorded conversation lasted over three hours and was interrupted at times by uncontrollable emotions. This only deepened my admiration and respect for this senior figure, making me feel that what I had done was insignificant, and even more proud to be his successor. The insights and materials from the conversation with the renowned writer and journalist Ma Van Khang are invaluable, and I believe each member of our group cherishes them deeply.
