“This book is not just mine,” journalist To Dinh Tuan emphasized when speaking about his recently released book, “Embarking on the Journalism Profession,” published by the Ho Chi Minh City General Publishing House. With over 30 years in journalism, the Editor-in-Chief of Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, To Dinh Tuan, chose to recount his experiences in the profession through articles, reports, notes, and memorable stories. He shared that the book is not actually his alone, as it contains the footprints of tens of thousands of journalists across the country, in many different fields of social life.
Indeed, through the book's six main sections: "Following the Current," "Events and Issues," "Steadfastly Moving Forward," "Looking Out to the World ," "Reportage and Notes," and "Portraits of People," readers have the opportunity to better understand the working journey of the journalists behind the works. This is the spirit of dedication, engagement, and service.
Another very interesting book about journalism is "Witnesses to History" (Volume 1) by Professor Dr. Ta Ngoc Tan (National Political Publishing House). The book portrays the portraits of revolutionary journalists, highlighting their talent, character, and the historical and professional values left behind by these pioneering journalists. The first journalist respectfully introduced in the book is Ho Chi Minh, the founder of Vietnamese revolutionary journalism. Following him, in chronological order of birth, are pioneering journalists such as Huynh Thuc Khang, Ngo Tat To, Nguyen An Ninh, Tran Huy Lieu, Truong Chinh, Phan Thanh, Hai Trieu, Vo Nguyen Giap, and Xuan Thuy…
Another work by Professor Dr. Ta Ngoc Tan, published by the National Political Publishing House, is "The Bell of the Village - Truth After Truth." The book compiles 99 articles on a variety of topics: economics, culture, society, and current events at the time of publication. These articles were previously published in the Journal of Political Theory and Communication under the pseudonyms: Nam Son Journalist, Nam Son. Notably, the book contains articles that boldly and directly criticize social vices and bad habits. With his strong argumentation skills and broad knowledge, the author offers insightful analyses and assessments of social issues.
The book series "Time and Witnesses" (Memoirs of Journalists), compiled by Professor Ha Minh Duc and his colleagues over more than 10 years, was first published by the National Political Publishing House in 1994 (Volume 1), 1997 (Volume 2), and 2001 (Volume 3). Recently, due to reader demand, the series has been reprinted by the National Political Publishing House in a more attractive and engaging format. With over 40 articles across three volumes, the series portrays the portraits of 43 renowned journalists and their significant contributions to Vietnamese revolutionary journalism. These memoirs and recollections, recorded with emotion and authenticity, recount the journey of their journalistic careers; each journalist is a flower with their own unique fragrance and beauty.
Behind every journalistic work are stories of the profession, journeys, anxieties, and the silent sacrifices of the writer. These books not only help readers better understand journalism but also open the door to the world of journalists, where truth, responsibility, and love for the profession are always paramount. They also represent the beautiful imprints of Vietnamese revolutionary journalism throughout history, preserved through memories, writings, and a passion for the profession.
