The day Alonso returns to Bernabeu is not far away. |
AS and Kicker report that Real Madrid will sign Xabi Alonso this summer, after the Spanish coach reached an agreement to terminate his contract early with Bayer Leverkusen.
The German team previously had a contract with Alonso, saying that they would not make things difficult if the coach wanted to move to a bigger team to work right after the 2024/25 season. Real Madrid is expected to pay Leverkusen 2-3 million euros to compensate for the remaining year of Alonso's contract with the German team.
Last year, Bayer Leverkusen succeeded in extending Alonso's contract until 2026, but they also promised to let the coach leave if Real Madrid or Liverpool approached. This move helped Real Madrid save a lot of money, in the context that they want to invest heavily in the squad in the summer transfer window of 2025.
In fact, coach Alonso was contacted by all three former teams including Real Madrid, Liverpool and Bayern Munich in the summer of 2024. However, the Spanish coach refused all of them to continue leading Leverkusen for at least one more season.
During his football career, Xabi Alonso played for Real Madrid for 5 years (2009-2014). Together with "Los Blancos", the former Spanish player won La Liga 2011/12 and Champions League 2013/14.
With the Xabi Alonso deal about to be completed, the Spanish Royal team is also ready to say goodbye to Carlo Ancelotti right after the 2024/25 season ends.
That will create an opportunity for the Italian strategist to lead the Brazilian team. Thus, there is a high possibility that Coach Alonso will lead Real Madrid in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in June.
