Foreign tourists enjoy the wild lemon preserves produced by Mau Son Ecological Farm Cooperative at the product display booth.
The Mau Son Ecological Farm Cooperative (Bo Pam village), Mau Son commune, was established in February 2020. The cooperative's main products are wild lemons, wild honey, and herbal rice wine.
Mr. Hoang Phuc Thang, Director of Mau Son Ecological Farm Cooperative, said: "Right from its establishment, through the propaganda and guidance of the commune government, the cooperative registered to participate in the OCOP program. Accordingly, the cooperative focuses on implementing criteria such as ensuring food safety and hygiene, building product labels, and creating product stories... In addition, to develop OCOP products from wild lemons, the cooperative has diversified its products. Along with that, the cooperative has also received active guidance and financial support from the commune government and specialized departments for logo design, packaging and label printing, and product promotion… Since its establishment, the cooperative has had 5 products evaluated and ranked as OCOP 3-star; the value of these products has increased by 30 to 50% compared to before participation."
Similarly to the Mau Son Ecological Farm Cooperative, recognizing that participating in the OCOP program contributes to building and promoting their brand, the Thanh Loc Cooperative (Ban Phai village, Mau Son commune) is also actively improving its products.
Mr. Ly Minh Hieu, Director of Thanh Loc Cooperative, said: The cooperative has focused on researching and applying scientific and technical methods to successfully produce the six-toed Mau Son chicken breed using artificial insemination. To build a product brand, since 2022, the cooperative has actively completed the application process to participate in the OCOP program. To date, the cooperative has two products that have been evaluated under the OCOP program: the six-toed Mau Son chicken (3 stars) and the Luc Dinh Nui Tuyet chicken (4 stars). Currently, the cooperative sells 300 to 500 commercial chickens per month at prices ranging from 180,000 to 200,000 VND/kg.
Besides the two aforementioned entities, according to statistics, since the implementation of the OCOP program, Mau Son commune has had 18 products certified under the OCOP program, with 17 products achieving 3 stars and 1 product achieving 4 stars.
To achieve these results, the commune government has identified distinctive products, formed a production, processing, and consumption chain; and directed specialized departments to promote and guide businesses in building dossiers to participate in the OCOP program. The commune government also supported cooperatives and businesses in designing and innovating packaging, labels, and product quality standards, and connecting product consumption through ecotourism and e-commerce platforms.
Ms. Duong Thi Thu Hang, Head of the Economic Department of Mau Son Commune, said: "Through the OCOP program, products are becoming more widely known, and the market has expanded; the value of products has increased by 15 to 20%, with some products seeing a value increase of over 30% compared to before; consumption has also increased by 15-20% compared to before participating in the OCOP program. In the future, the department will continue to advise the Commune People's Committee to develop strong and distinctive local products such as fragrant frogs and salmon to participate in the OCOP program."
Thanks to these efforts, in October 2025, Mau Son was the only commune in the province to receive a commendation from the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee for its outstanding achievements in implementing the "One Commune One Product (OCOP) Program of Lang Son Province giai đoạn 2021 - 2025, with orientation to 2030".
