"This is Ha Tinh Radio Station..."

(Baohatinh.vn) - At exactly 5:30 AM on September 1, 1991, the radio waves of Ha Tinh broadcast: "This is Ha Tinh Radio Station," and at 7:45 PM on the same day, television signals were broadcast from the television relay station in Ha Tinh town.

Two significant events occurred precisely at a time marking a milestone in the province's re-establishment, and also marked the first time Ha Tinh Radio and Television Station broadcast its radio and television programs.

I was a combat officer serving on the B battlefield during the fierce years of the war against the US, and then I was one of the pioneers in establishing the Vietnam News Agency in Ho Chi Minh City after liberation. In 1980, when things at the News Agency gradually settled into a routine, I was transferred to Nghe Tinh Radio and Television Station at my own request.

The press has accompanied the development of Ha Tinh throughout its historical years.

On August 16, 1991, the Board of Directors of Nghe Tinh Radio and Television Station formed a team of technical staff including: Mr. Nguyen Nieng - Deputy Director, Mr. Ho Duc Binh - Head of the Broadcasting Technical Department, Messrs. Le Van Loang, Truong Cong Xan, Nguyen Van Hung, Nguyen Van Thanh, and myself, to return to Ha Tinh to build Ha Tinh Radio and Television Station. The assets we brought with us consisted of only one XF-D7 shortwave to mediumwave transmitter, 1 KW power, two specialized recording devices, one 10 KW generator, a few oil pipes and bimetallic strips. All were old equipment.

On the anniversary of the August Revolution in 1991, we set off for Ha Tinh town. Although we were no longer as eager to leave as we were during our time serving on the battlefield, we couldn't help but feel a sense of nostalgia as we carried the heavy responsibility of being sons returning to rebuild our homeland. Ha Tinh town at that time was exactly as Mai Hong Nien's poem described: "The day of return, the streets are muddy and overgrown with weeds." It seemed as if the town had been dormant for 15 years since its merger with the province. And we, those who had participated in the battles, those who had joined hands in rebuilding the country after the war, were once again determined to rebuild our homeland…

Compared to other agencies, we were fortunate to have the two-story office building returned to us by the Ha Tinh Town Radio Station. This was the property of the Ha Tinh Radio Station before it merged with the province, and it was also the only two-story building in Ha Tinh Town at that time. With the help of Mr. Nguyen Dinh Trien, who was then the Head of the Ha Tinh Town Radio Station, we quickly settled into our new living quarters. The next day, the whole team immediately got to work. We encouraged each other to work hard, erecting poles, pulling wires, installing equipment, working day and night. Although very tired, everyone felt happy and proud to be among the first to roll up their sleeves and rebuild the Ha Tinh Radio and Television Station.

In the early days, broadcasters at Ha Tinh Radio and Television Station worked under extremely difficult conditions.

At exactly 5:30 AM on September 1, 1991, the radio waves of Ha Tinh blared: "This is Ha Tinh Radio Station!" And at 7:45 PM on the same day, Ha Tinh television broadcasts began from the Ha Tinh town television relay station. The broadcasts spread, coinciding with the milestone of the re-establishment of Ha Tinh province, a momentous event for the local Party Committee and people. This also marked a turning point in the technology of Ha Tinh Radio and Television Station. A new chapter opened; Ha Tinh now had its own radio and television station.

Ten years after its re-establishment, with the support of the province and the tireless efforts of the then-current staff, Ha Tinh Radio and Television Station acquired numerous filming and program production equipment, including 5 KW HARISS television transmitters and 10 KW HARISS medium-wave radio transmitters. The technical staff's skills were also continuously improved, maximizing the capacity of the equipment to serve the propaganda mission. As a result, the quality of radio and television broadcasts reached further and became clearer.

However, due to the province's complex terrain, even with increased broadcasting power, coverage across the entire province was impossible. The only solution was to occupy the summit of Thien Tuong mountain in the Ngan Hong mountain range. After much deliberation and consultation, in 2002, the Provincial People's Committee decided to allow investment in the construction of the Thien Tuong broadcasting station. A series of issues arose, such as: how to run high-voltage power lines to the mountaintop, how to effectively protect against lightning strikes, where to find water for the staff's daily needs… and after numerous meetings and discussions among relevant units, the optimal solution was chosen: the power poles would be transported to the summit by specialized vehicles and then gradually lowered one by one, with a comprehensive lightning protection system for the antennas, poles, and a spiderweb-like lightning protection system for rapid lightning strikes, and a large, crack-resistant, and leak-proof water tank would be constructed to collect rainwater for daily use.

Technical staff prepare to install microwave equipment to transmit signals to the Tianxiang Observatory in 2003.

After more than a year of strenuous construction, overcoming the hardships of the high, steep mountainous terrain, the inauguration ceremony was held on October 18, 2003. The 2 KW television transmitter officially began broadcasting local television signals. Remote and isolated areas of the districts of Duc Tho, Huong Son, Vu Quang, Huong Khe, and Nghi Xuan now received clear television signals from Ha Tinh, ending the situation where people in some areas could not follow the province's daily news.

In the context of the time, this was a groundbreaking milestone in extending television coverage throughout the entire administrative area of the province. Furthermore, people in Vinh City and many districts of Nghe An province were able to watch Ha Tinh television.

Recognizing this as an ideal terrestrial broadcasting spot, the Voice of Vietnam immediately installed a 10 KW FM transmitter broadcasting on the 102.7 MHz frequency, and Vietnam Television also installed a K9 transmitter to broadcast VTV2.

With the rapid development of digitalization, television broadcasting has been transmitted multimediaally, especially via the internet, offering users many convenient options. However, the Thien Tuong television broadcasting point still plays an important role, effectively utilizing terrestrial digital technology, helping people, especially those in economically disadvantaged households, to easily access and regularly watch national and local television programs.
