Promote poverty reduction, improve material and spiritual life for ethnic minorities

On 1/11, Hau Giang province organized the 4 Provincial Ethnic Minority Congress, year 2024. Attending the Congress were 250, official delegates, representing over 33.000 ethnic minorities of the province.

Hau Giang province has 15 ethnic minorities, 8.806 households with 33.450 people. Ethnic minorities live together, united, and closely with Kinh people. From 2019 to 2024, national target programs and many ethnic programs, projects, and policies implemented by all levels and sectors have achieved many important results, contributing to helping poor and near-poor households of ethnic minorities gradually improve their lives, develop the economy, and escape poverty. The poverty rate among ethnic minorities decreased from 5,11% (in 2019) to 3,29% (by the end of 2023). The economic and social infrastructure system in ethnic minority areas has been focused on investment, basically meeting the production and living needs of the people. National and religious solidarity and popular sentiment are consolidated, social order, safety and political security are maintained.

In the period of 2024 - 2029, Hau Giang province continues to prioritize comprehensive and sustainable development of communes in ethnic minority areas and extremely disadvantaged hamlets; focus on exploiting the potential, promoting the advantages of ethnic minority areas, innovating, creating, promoting economic development, ensuring social security. The province focuses on rapid and sustainable poverty reduction, avoiding re-poverty, narrowing the income gap compared to developed areas; coordinating and integrating national target programs towards gradually reducing extremely disadvantaged areas; significantly improving the lives and livelihoods of ethnic minorities.

Recognizing and praising the efforts of ethnic minorities in Hau Giang province, Deputy Minister and Vice Chairwoman of the Ethnic Minorities Committee Nong Thi Ha requested Party committees, authorities and organizations at all levels to continue to innovate their thinking, take drastic actions, promote potentials and advantages, step up poverty reduction, build new rural areas, improve the material and spiritual life of ethnic minorities, and effectively implement national target programs. At the same time, localities and units should pay attention to preserving and promoting good traditional cultural values, tangible and intangible cultural heritages of ethnic minorities; eliminate backward customs; continue to improve the quality and effectiveness of education and training, especially training, fostering and vocational training for ethnic minority youth; pay attention to improving the quality of health care for people in difficult and extremely difficult areas...

On this occasion, the Minister and Chairman of the Ethnic Committee awarded Certificates of Merit to 1 collective and 5 individuals with outstanding achievements in implementing ethnic work and policies; awarded the Commemorative Medal "For the cause of ethnic development" to 5 individuals. The Chairman of the People's Committee of Hau Giang province awarded Certificates of Merit to 5 collectives and 20 individuals with outstanding achievements in socio-economic development of ethnic minority areas in the province, period 2019 - 2024./.
