With only a few days left before the 2026 high school graduation exam, representatives from the Ministry of Education and Training shared important guidelines and new features for this year's exam. Accordingly, the exam will continue to closely follow the 2018 general education curriculum but will be designed to increase the ability to differentiate candidates, simultaneously meeting the requirements for graduation and university entrance.
Professor Huynh Van Chuong, Director of the Quality Management Department (Ministry of Education and Training), stated that the 2026 exam questions were developed according to modern testing principles and closely followed the requirements of the new general education curriculum.
"The exam must assess fundamental knowledge for graduation purposes, while also providing differentiation to aid in university admissions, especially for top-tier universities," said Professor Huynh Van Chuong.

The goal of the exam is to ensure that students meet the learning outcomes and can fulfill the basic requirements, while also providing a basis for universities to use the exam results in their admissions process.
Representatives from the Ministry of Education and Training also affirmed that the 2026 high school graduation exam questions were developed in accordance with modern testing methods, ensuring reliability, objectivity, and the ability to assess students' abilities.
The above information suggests that candidates should avoid rote learning or focusing on guessing exam questions during the final stages. With a focus on assessing competence, the exam will test knowledge and skills learned in the curriculum rather than simply requiring rote memorization. Education experts recommend that candidates concentrate on consolidating foundational knowledge, reviewing key topics, and practicing exam-taking skills according to the new exam structure. Furthermore, allocating time wisely and honing their ability to handle application-based questions is also crucial.
In addition to reviewing the material, candidates should pay attention to following the exam regulations. They should carefully check their exam documents, exam location, and registration time before the exam day to avoid any unnecessary problems.
For multiple-choice exams, candidates must fill in their full personal information, registration number, exam code, and accurately mark the answer sheet according to the instructions. Errors during the exam may directly affect the results, even if the candidate answers correctly.
Alongside finalizing the exam questions, the Ministry of Education and Training is also paying special attention to the grading process to ensure fairness for all candidates. According to Professor Huynh Van Chuong, one of the important requirements is to prevent inconsistent grading between localities, where some areas grade strictly while others grade loosely.
To achieve this goal, the Ministry of Education and Training will strengthen detailed grading guidelines, organize joint grading sessions, compare results, and conduct random checks during the grading process, especially for Literature - the only essay-based subject in the exam.
2026 will see the highest number of candidates registering for the high school graduation exam ever, with over 1.22 million candidates. The Ministry of Education and Training stated that the preparation of exam questions, invigilation, and marking are being implemented synchronously to ensure the exam takes place safely, seriously, objectively, and fairly.
The 2026 high school graduation exam is expected to take place at the end of June. The exam results will be used to determine high school graduation eligibility and will also be one of the important criteria for university admissions.
