The Trinh Cong Son music night "Song of Peace " was directed by journalist Vo Nguyen Thuy, Director of Quang Tri Radio and Television Station, and Mr. Nguyen Trung Truc, representing the Trinh Cong Son family. The program brought together many famous artists: Cam Van, Quang Dung, Duc Tuan...; singer Trinh Vinh Trinh, Trinh Cong Son's sister; Korean violinist Jmi Ko; American-born singer Kyo York; and young Cindy…
Peace is the heartfelt desire and shared dream of humanity; the ultimate goal of patriotism, national spirit, compassion, and boundless friendship. The voice praising peace is truly meaningful when it comes from Vietnam, a country that has fought tirelessly for thousands of years to protect its sovereignty and fundamental human rights: the right to live in peace.
That voice becomes even more meaningful when it resonates from lands that have suffered greatly from war, such as Quang Tri. The program is a voice of compassion, of healing to forget old wounds, and of a yearning for a future of shared development for all of humanity.

Composer Trịnh Công Sơn, a son of the Bình Trị Thiên region, was known not only for his love songs that touched generations of music lovers, but also as an artist of peace.
Through music, he gave voice to the human condition, to the yearning for peace from the old days to the new days filled with tolerance and the purity of love for humanity.
Vietnam in general, and the people of Quang Tri in particular, are people who deeply cherish peace. The Trinh Cong Son concert "Song of Peace" is a way to use artistic language, through the romantic and philosophical lens of Trinh Cong Son's music, to convey that meaning to the audience.
The program consists of three parts. Part 1 is themed "Let me go to raise up peace." The wartime past is depicted in Trinh Cong Son's music as a realistic yet loving painting. In it, we see the suffering of the human condition: small and downtrodden during the bombings. But the music of the talented composer Trinh Cong Son is more than that. Even in those anti-war songs, we clearly see the yearning for peace in every lyric.
The yearning for peace is the voice of the Vietnamese people in particular and of all humanity in general: "Let me go and rebuild our love story, let me go and raise up peace..."

Part 2 is themed "Love Songs for Peace." Composer Trịnh Công Sơn viewed peace as an inevitability stemming from the cultural and human identity of Vietnam, instilling in people a boundless, miraculous love. Peace, too, is a simple, natural, and innocent yearning of each individual. After days of longing to "see our homeland shine brightly," we see a Vietnam at peace, beautiful in its simplicity and sacredness. Peace is as beautiful as love songs of love for one's homeland, love for humanity, and love for humankind.
Part 3 is themed "Let's Love Each Other." When the whole world comes together in Quang Tri to pray and celebrate peace. Peace means not discriminating based on skin color, nationality, gender, or generation… together we look towards a bright future of love, friendship, and care for future generations. "Let's Love Each Other" is the meaningful message of this program, for everyone.
At the concert, the audience enjoyed famous works by composer Trinh Cong Son: "Waiting to See My Homeland Shining Brightly," "The Mother of O Ly," "Mother's Folk Song," "What Do We See Tonight," "Please Give Me," "Diem Xua," "White Summer," "Do You Remember, My Dear?", "What Age Is Left for You?", "Pilgrimage on the High Hill"...

Speaking at the concert, Vice Chairman of the Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee Hoang Nam, Head of the Organizing Committee of the 2024 Peace Festival, emphasized that the French encyclopedia Le Million affirms: "Trinh Cong Son's poetic voice can never be extinguished by bombs and bullets"; and Trinh Cong Son's music has "penetrated people's hearts like a flowing stream," as Van Cao, a giant of Vietnamese music, observed, and that sweet stream continues to flow through time.
With Quang Tri, musician Trinh Cong Son had many connections and a deep bond. His famous song "The Mother of O Ly" is about a mother from Quang Tri whom he met during the war years. This song can be considered one of the musical monuments depicting the image of the Vietnamese mother, enduring hardship, dedicating and sacrificing everything for her husband, children, and family, and always wishing for the simple things that peace would bring to the lives of every Vietnamese citizen.
After the country achieved peace and reunification, musician Trinh Cong Son came to Quang Tri to participate in overcoming the consequences of war and rebuilding his homeland. In his memoir "Nam Thach Han in the early days of March," written in 1978, he foresaw a bright future for Quang Tri: "Digging a canal, clearing a waterway, completely transforms the landscape of nature and the lives of people. The image of a canal with emerald green water flashed in my mind, then gave way to an unceasing longing for the people who mixed their sweat with so many wonderful things that were still emerging here."
More than 40 years have passed since musician Trinh Cong Son first visited Quang Tri province, and his premonition has come true. Quang Tri province has truly revived, transformed, and is now developing, rising above the ruins of war. Trinh Cong Son's feelings and hopes for a bright future for Quang Tri are now resonating in a shared aspiration: to build Quang Tri, a land that suffered so much pain and loss during the war, into a place where gratitude, love, compassion, and an undying desire for peace converge.
This is one of the five key programs of the 2024 Peace Festival.
