A meeting point amidst the hustle and bustle of urban life.

Early in the morning, while many are still asleep, the rhythmic sounds of folk dance fill the air by the Memorial Lake, arms stretch out in gentle exercises, and people jog leisurely along the walking path... There, the rhythm of urban life begins a new day with vigorous, simple, and vibrant movement.

Wake up to a new day

In recent years, urban public spaces have evolved from mere places for passive strolling and relaxation into familiar cultural and sporting hubs for the community. From early morning to late afternoon, every courtyard and pathway is filled with groups of people of all ages: young people jogging and cycling; middle-aged people dancing and playing volleyball; and the elderly practicing Tai Chi, Tai Chi, and folk dances.

According to observations, on average, public squares and central areas attract several hundred people participating in dance practice each morning and afternoon. In Minh Xuan ward alone, there are currently nearly 80 dance groups, each with 10-15 members, practicing regularly 3-5 times a week. This number demonstrates the strong vitality of mass sports, formed and spreading entirely from the self-generated needs of the community.

No entrance fee is required, and no distinction is made based on occupation or age; all that's needed is a willingness to immerse oneself, and anyone can become a part of this flow. Public spaces, therefore, are no longer silent but become vibrant, warm, and imbued with the breath of urban life. In this picture, folk dance stands out as a persistent and familiar color. Without elaborate props or complex techniques, folk dance captivates participants with its cheerful and accessible nature. Familiar melodies and rhythmic movements help participants find joy and relaxation after the worries of daily life.

Ms. Pham Thi Nhung, Head of the Hoa Ban Trang Folk Dance Club in Minh Xuan Ward, shared: “Before, after work, I would just stay at home, feeling tired and down. Since joining the folk dance club, I feel healthier, happier, have friends, and have the motivation to go out and practice every day.”

Along with folk dance, mass sports activities such as jogging, walking, cycling, volleyball, and outdoor exercise are forming a naturally spreading health and fitness movement. Without the need for modern gyms or personal trainers, people are finding common spaces to exercise and adjust their lifestyles towards a healthier direction.

Urban culture is nurtured through daily life.

The communal space also naturally facilitates generational interaction. Grandparents practice Tai Chi, parents play volleyball, and children jog or cycle. Without rigid lessons, this very image spreads a message about a healthy lifestyle and the bonding of family and community. Ms. Nguyen Thu Trang, from Group 2, Ha Giang 1 Ward, a yoga and walking enthusiast, simply shared: “Exercising in the square every day helps me balance my body and mind. When I maintain it regularly, my health improves significantly, and my mind feels lighter. It’s time I dedicate to myself.”

Ms. Phuc Thi Xuyen, Deputy Head of the Department of Culture and Family Management, Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, affirmed that the community's proactive organization and maintenance of folk dance and sports dance activities in public spaces clearly reflects the genuine cultural needs of urban residents. From practical experience, it can be seen that when culture is formed from the rhythm of daily life, with people being both creators and beneficiaries, urban values will spread naturally and sustainably.

These subtle but continuous movements are contributing to fostering a healthy and beautiful lifestyle, enriching spiritual life, and gradually shaping the image of a humane city, where culture is not separate from life but is present in the daily activities of the community.
