The most memorable local products of An Lão are the wild fern and the catfish, and in this mountainous district, the wild fern and catfish from An Toàn are considered top-ranked. Wild fern is a crisp, sweet wild vegetable that grows along streams, often boiled and dipped in chili fish sauce, or stir-fried with garlic for a fragrant aroma. Tourists can join the locals in wading through streams to pick the fern, feeling the close connection between humans and nature. Catfish live in streams, and the best ones are found in the fastest-flowing areas. Catfish have slender bodies, shimmering scales, and firm, sweet, fatty flesh.
