The average score for Geography in 2026 is 5.1, which is 1.53 points lower than last year. This is a significant difference.
In particular, nationwide, over 47% of exam papers scored below average, and only nearly 14.5% scored 7 or higher. Notably, this year only 56 papers received a perfect score of 10, while last year nearly 7,000 candidates achieved this score.
Conversely, 102 Geography exam papers received failing grades.


In last year's high school graduation exam, Geography had over 476,000 candidates.
The results show that the average score was 6.63 points. Nationwide, nearly 7,000 candidates achieved a perfect score of 10, while more than 89,000 papers scored below average, accounting for about 19%. The most frequently recorded score was 7.75 points.
According to statistics, in 2026, Geography continued to be one of the subjects in the Social Sciences group with a large number of candidates, second only to History with nearly 449,000 candidates taking the exam.
This year marks the second year that Geography has been included in the exam according to the 2018 General Education Program, with a test structure consisting of 28 multiple-choice questions, to be completed in 50 minutes.
The exam is divided into three parts: Part I consists of 18 multiple-choice questions; Part II consists of 4 true-false questions, each with four options a, b, c, d; and Part III consists of 6 short-answer multiple-choice questions.

The exam content comprehensively covers the knowledge of 12th-grade Geography, while also flexibly integrating some content from 11th grade. The exam also incorporates topical issues such as the knowledge economy and global climate change.
In terms of difficulty level, the exam is designed to strike a balance between the levels of knowledge, comprehension, and application.
Notably, the exam did not require rote memorization of place names or complex calculations, but focused on the ability to read and understand data, analyze charts, and apply knowledge to practical situations.
