Political commentary stage becomes a "national concert"
Previously, the Vietnamese performing arts scene was often divided into two distinct segments: one side consisted of thought-provoking programs, heavily focused on history and politics , often considered unappealing to younger audiences and only suitable for major events; the other side comprised entertainment and commercial music nights...
This mindset has created an invisible gap, making many meaningful art programs seem alien to the general public, especially young people.
However, thanks to the emulation movement, political and artistic programs have transformed into explosive "national concerts," attracting tens of thousands of viewers of all ages who come to watch and cheer enthusiastically.
This transformation is clearly demonstrated through typical events, most notably the recent " Vietnam in My Heart" music festival; "80 Years - A Journey of Independence, Freedom, and Happiness" organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to celebrate the 80th anniversary of National Day…
These performances generated unprecedented appeal. The image of long lines of fans patiently waiting for tickets became a symbol of the public's love and desire to immerse themselves in art. Despite the harsh weather, they braved the sun and rain to fully experience and immerse themselves in these historical melodies.
This success is the result of a spirit of competition, meticulous investment, and tireless efforts from hundreds of artists, directors, and production teams to create high-quality products. A key factor in this success is the blend of tradition and modernity, where revolutionary songs and patriotic anthems are rearranged with contemporary genres such as Pop, Rock, and Acoustic.
The selection of influential young artists such as Soobin Hoang Son, Hoa Minzy, Erik, Duc Phuc, or the band Chillies… also contributed to the success of the programs. They not only brought a breath of fresh air but also helped bridge the generation gap, turning old songs into million-view hits on digital platforms.
Beyond music , the application of technology in performing arts also plays a crucial role in creating impressive visual and emotional experiences. Sound systems, lighting, LED screens, smoke and fire effects, fireworks, and 3D mapping technology are meticulously invested in and staged, creating explosive performances – not just music, but also stories told through images, light, and special effects. This transforms events into multi-sensory artistic feasts, captivating attention and creating moments of exhilaration for both artists and audiences.
Affirming the position of Vietnamese art
In the recent period, many performing arts organizations have also competed, created, and staged new programs; revised and improved the quality of old programs; expanded their scope of service, especially serving people in remote areas; and introduced traditional art to international friends…
Furthermore, the industry has successfully organized numerous professional art competitions and festivals both domestically and internationally, including: the 2023 Autumn Music Competition, the 2023 National Chamber Music, Opera, and Choral Singing Competition, the National Circus Talent Competition; the National Drama Festival; the National Music and Dance Festival; the National Traditional Opera and Folk Drama Festival; the National Cheo Festival; the National Cai Luong Festival; the International Circus Festival; the ASEAN Music Festival… These events have contributed to elevating the scale and aligning with international trends, clearly reflecting the achievements of the industry's creative competition and integration efforts.
In the competition with other fields, the performing arts in our country have also achieved many proud accomplishments. With encouraging and facilitating policies, the Vietnamese performing arts market is currently developing strongly and becoming more diverse.
Live concerts by domestic artists are organized on a large scale, attracting a large audience and delivering top-quality performances. In addition, the participation of businesses contributes to creating attractive entertainment programs that meet the needs and preferences of young people, and often results in sold-out shows.
Furthermore, Vietnam is becoming a destination for many world- renowned artists and bands, providing international-class artistic experiences for the domestic audience. At the same time, Vietnamese music is gradually reaching out to the world, with artists performing and participating in international competitions. These successes not only affirm the position of Vietnamese art but also contribute to promoting the country's culture globally.
Vietnamese theater affirms its position.
In recent years, especially during the 2024-2025 period, many theaters under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism have made encouraging progress. These include: the Vietnam Contemporary Art Theater, the Vietnam National Drama Theater, the Vietnam Puppet Theater, and the Youth Theater… all exceeding their targets and achieving outstanding results in terms of the number of performances and ticket sales revenue. This demonstrates that the shift in approach to audience engagement has yielded positive results.
The strong resurgence of Vietnamese theatrical arts is also evident in its ability to seamlessly combine cultural heritage with modern creative elements. For example, the "Sacred Traces of Hanoi" program uses modern sound and lighting to stimulate all the senses of the audience, vividly recreating the essence of traditional opera. The play "Sweet Starfruit Branch" skillfully integrates modern songs into traditional melodies, creating a fresh space for enjoying cải lương (Vietnamese traditional opera), especially for young people.
Even puppetry, an art form traditionally associated with children, has been creatively revitalized, with performances harmoniously blending traditional and modern elements. The combination of lighting and sound technology not only evokes childhood memories but also conveys a profound message about the value of one's roots.
This is clear evidence of the flexible adaptability and vibrant vitality of traditional Vietnamese art, while also demonstrating the continuous creativity of artists in the emulation movement, contributing to the preservation and promotion of the national artistic heritage.
These achievements affirm the strong development potential of the country's performing arts industry, while also opening up opportunities for the industry to become one of the pillars of the cultural industry. This is the result of the patriotic emulation movement - creating motivation and a favorable environment for organizations and individual artists to maximize their creativity.
The timely and accurate recognition and rewarding of outstanding collectives and individuals has encouraged, acknowledged, and honored valuable contributions, thereby promoting the sustainable development of the industry. Although the road ahead still presents many challenges, with the achievements already made, we can have complete confidence in a bright future for Vietnamese performing arts, continuing to make important contributions to the development of national culture.
