Strong literary flow in Ho Chi Minh City

At the Southern Youth Literature seminar held on the morning of October 21, young writers expressed their views on the use of AI technology in writing.

The discussion was organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Writers Association, within the framework of Ho Chi Minh City Literature and Arts Days.

Attending the discussion were Deputy Head of the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Le Van Minh, Deputy Head of the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Thi Kim Quyen and leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City Writers Association, writers and poets of many generations.

Young writers are not afraid of AI

As one of the young writers selected to participate in the discussion, writer Nguyen Dinh Khoa attracted attention when his work Different Version (won the young author award of the Ho Chi Minh City Writers Association in 2024) was related to AI.

In the current trend of AI technology development, Nguyen Dinh Khoa shared his opinion that writers and journalists could become unemployed because they are replaced by AI.

"On social media, people have been talking a lot about AI technology and how it can help people write. I heard about it, but I personally am not too concerned or worried.

I don’t think AI can replace writers. AI technology seems to write very methodically, structurally correct… However, I find that human writers are still more emotional.

I am the one who lives in that environment so I can absorb and know clearly what the inner self is like, from there I will have my own thoughts and writing style" - Nguyen Dinh Khoa expressed.

He thinks that because AI has developed so much, it is now easy for people to detect which parts of the book use AI. According to him, readers always respect real writers, so they will appreciate the effort that the writer put into creating the work.

Ho Chi Minh City, where writers who are persistent in their profession gather

During the discussion, the writers all recognized that Ho Chi Minh City is the most dynamic and open city in the country, so it is a favorable environment for talents in many fields to develop their abilities, including literature.

This is also a city of love, accepting all elements, subjects, and styles, so it has attracted many literary talents to the city to live and develop their writing.

From this land, young poet Tran Duc Tin was guided and mentored by his predecessors to overcome the confusion of his first days of writing.

Today, he admits that he is about to pass the youth threshold, the city has received a new generation of young people. They are active, have the conditions to access new things in the world , have foreign language ability to directly read the texts that are the trend of the time, so they quickly learn and integrate quickly.

Writer Phuong Huyen informed that at the Young Writers Conference, there appeared writers who were only 16 or 17 years old and were able to "make things happen".

For example, writer Cao Viet Quynh (born in 2008) won the National Good Book Award in 2022, Tran Phu Minh Anh (born in 2007) won the A prize of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations in 2023.

In the case of Cao Viet Quynh, writer Vo Thu Huong expressed her admiration for her friend's passion for writing and publishing several series of stories while still in school.

Not only are there young buds, there are great writers like Mr. Tran Duc Tien who at the age of 70 still continues to write children's stories, and according to Vo Thu Huong, each book is better than the previous one. "I really respect his creativity and serious working attitude" - Vo Thu Huong said.

It is these successive waves that create a strong literary flow in Ho Chi Minh City. A motivating environment for each writer to always strive to have works that bear their own mark, not falling behind the times.
