Strengthening military-civilian ties

Prolonged heavy rains at the end of October caused serious landslides, damaging hundreds of houses in Que Phuoc commune and cutting off many traffic routes. As soon as the flood receded, in Xuan Hoa village, nearly 30 officers and soldiers participated in cleaning up mud, collecting belongings, and repairing houses to help households that suffered heavy damage.

Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Nam Thanh, Deputy Political Commissar of the 574th Armored Brigade, said that immediately after the flood receded, the unit mobilized 50 officers and soldiers divided into two teams to support Que Phuoc commune. The force focused on helping people clean up their houses, clear mud on roads, residential areas and schools. "Supporting people to overcome the consequences of natural disasters is a regular task of the unit, demonstrating the spirit of "Uncle Ho's soldiers" always for the people, helping people overcome difficulties, contributing to helping the locality soon stabilize their lives and activities," said Lieutenant Colonel Thanh.

In the Nong Son Pass area, Highway 14H is one of the most serious landslides, thousands of cubic meters of rock and soil poured onto the road, causing traffic jams. Local authorities mobilized motor vehicles, militia and people to actively cut down fallen trees, clear rocks and soil, and clear the main road connecting the commune center.

Meanwhile, Route DH5 from the suspension bridge to Tu Nhu village also suffered landslides in many sections, completely cutting off traffic. As soon as the water receded, the People's Committees of the villages, together with the local people and youth forces, quickly cleared the mud and cleared the main routes, initially ensuring travel and transportation of necessities for the people.

Ms. Tao Thi To Diem, Chairwoman of Que Phuoc Commune People's Committee, said that the commune is urgently repairing landslide-affected roads, installing warning signs in dangerous areas, and resolutely not allowing people to pass through until safety is ensured. Together with the support of the armed forces, the government and people are urgently overcoming the consequences, helping people to soon stabilize their lives and restore production after the natural disaster.

Warm heart free car repair point

In Lanh Ngoc commune, with the spirit of mutual love and sharing difficulties with people in flooded areas, Tran Dinh Chau motorbike system coordinated with Tien Phuoc motorbike technical association to organize a free mobile motorbike repair program. More than 30 skilled workers worked continuously from morning to night, in poor conditions, but everyone was happy to see people's motorbikes start again.

As soon as the water receded, a team of volunteers and professional mechanics quickly arrived at the heavily flooded areas, carrying all the necessary tools, lubricants, components and spare parts to support the people. Each vehicle was cleared of mud, had its oil changed, its spark plugs cleaned, its engine checked and its electronic components dried before being restarted.

Coming to line up for car repair early in the morning, Ms. Le Hai Yen (Lanh Ngoc commune) shared: "In recent days, the water has been heavily flooded, the repair shops are all crowded, we have to wait a long time. Luckily, thanks to an acquaintance's introduction, I learned about this free car repair program. The workers here support enthusiastically and thoughtfully, helping people to worry less."

According to statistics, during this period, more than 300 flooded motorbikes were repaired, maintained and had their oil changed completely free of charge by the team of Head Tran Dinh Chau and Tien Phuoc Motorcycle Technical Association. More importantly, the mechanics not only provided technical support but also instructed people on basic handling when their motorbikes were flooded, helping people to be more proactive in similar situations.

Mr. Tran Dinh Chau, representative of the organizing unit, shared: “During this period, more than 300 flooded motorbikes were repaired, had their engines cleaned, and had their oil changed completely free of charge. We understand that after the floods, people face many difficulties, while there are still many things to worry about. Having a vehicle to travel, go to work, and take children to school is very necessary. Therefore, the team members only hope to contribute a little effort, helping people overcome this difficult period soon.”

In Thu Bon commune, the volunteer group "Duy Xuyen and friends" also organized a program to repair vehicles and replace parts for free for people in flooded areas. Mr. Le Cong Muoi, Deputy Head of the group, said that during the recent flood, many motorbikes that had been submerged in water for a long time were severely damaged, causing difficulties in daily life and travel. Realizing that urgent need, the group prepared 1,000 oil bottles, 300 ICs and 300 spark plugs, and organized free replacements at the yard of the Thu Bon Commune Military Command. "We understand that after a natural disaster, what people need is not only rice or clothes, but also a vehicle to go to work and to earn a living. Supporting vehicle repair, even though it is just a small thing, can help them return to normal life sooner," Mr. Muoi shared.

Crossing the forest to supply food

Receiving information that 155 Co Tu households in Ta Po village (Ben Giang commune) were isolated and needed urgent relief, on October 31 and November 1, Working Group No. 15 of the Defense Command of Area 2 - Thanh My traveled a distance of 70km, bringing with them timely supplies.

Lieutenant Colonel Briu Xia, Deputy Political Commissar of the Defense Command of Region 2 - Thanh My, said that many roads leading to residential areas were seriously eroded, traffic was paralyzed, and motor vehicles could not move. With the spirit of serving the people, not letting anyone go hungry or be left behind in times of trouble; officers and soldiers took turns carrying goods, climbing slopes, crossing streams to bring rice, instant noodles, salt, cooking oil, drinking water and essential items to the people.
