Strengthening the bond between the military and the people.

Heavy and prolonged rains at the end of October caused serious landslides, damaging hundreds of houses in Que Phuoc commune and cutting off many transportation routes. As soon as the floodwaters receded, in Xuan Hoa village, nearly 30 officers and soldiers participated in clearing mud and debris, collecting belongings, and repairing houses to help households that suffered heavy losses.

Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Nam Thanh, Deputy Political Commissar of the 574th Armored Brigade, said that immediately after the floodwaters receded, the unit mobilized 50 officers and soldiers, divided into two teams, to support Que Phuoc commune. The force focused on helping people clean up their houses, clear mud and debris from roads, residential areas, and schools. “Supporting people in overcoming the consequences of natural disasters is a regular task of the unit, demonstrating the spirit of ‘Uncle Ho’s soldiers’ always for the people, helping them overcome difficulties and contributing to helping the locality quickly stabilize their lives and livelihoods,” Lieutenant Colonel Thanh said.

In the Nong Son pass area, National Highway 14H is one of the most severely affected by landslides, with thousands of cubic meters of soil and rocks spilling onto the road, causing traffic congestion. Local authorities have mobilized heavy machinery, along with militia forces and residents, to actively cut down fallen trees, clear debris, and reopen the vital road connecting the commune center.

Meanwhile, section of Highway 5 from the suspension bridge to Tu Nhu village was also affected by landslides, completely cutting off traffic. As soon as the water receded, the People's Committees of the villages, along with the local people and youth forces, quickly cleared the mud and debris, reopening the main routes, initially ensuring travel and the transportation of essential supplies for the people.

According to Ms. Tao Thi To Diem, Chairwoman of the People's Committee of Que Phuoc commune, the commune is urgently repairing roads damaged by landslides, installing warning signs in dangerous areas, and resolutely preventing people from passing through until safety is ensured. With the support of the armed forces, the government and people are working urgently to mitigate the consequences, assist people in stabilizing their lives, and restore production after the natural disaster.

Heartwarming free car repair service

In Lanh Ngoc commune, with a spirit of mutual support and sharing the difficulties with the flood-affected people, Tran Dinh Chau motorbike repair service collaborated with the Tien Phuoc Motorbike Technical Association to organize a free mobile motorbike repair program. More than 30 skilled mechanics worked continuously from morning to night, under challenging conditions, but everyone was happy to see the people's motorbikes start up again.

Immediately after the floodwaters receded, teams of volunteers and professional mechanics quickly arrived at heavily flooded areas, equipped with all the necessary tools, lubricants, components, and spare parts to assist the residents. Each vehicle was cleaned of mud, had its oil changed, spark plugs cleaned, the engine inspected, and electronic components dried before being restarted.

Having lined up for motorbike repairs since early morning, Ms. Le Hai Yen (from Lanh Ngoc commune) shared: “In the past few days, the flooding was severe, and all the repair shops were packed, requiring long waits. Luckily, a friend introduced me to this free motorbike repair program. The mechanics here are very helpful and attentive, which has eased some of the worries for the people.”

According to statistics, during this period, more than 300 flooded motorbikes were repaired, maintained, and had their oil changed completely free of charge by the team of Head Tran Dinh Chau and the Tien Phuoc Motorbike Technical Association. Even more commendable, the mechanics not only provided technical support but also guided people on basic handling procedures when their motorbikes are flooded, helping them to be more proactive in similar situations.

Mr. Tran Dinh Chau, representative of the organizing unit, shared: “During this event, more than 300 motorbikes that were submerged in water were repaired, had their engines cleaned, and had their oil changed completely free of charge. We understand that after the floods, people face many difficulties, while still having so many other things to worry about. Having a vehicle to get around, go to work, and take their children to school is essential. Therefore, the team members only hope to contribute a small effort to help people overcome this difficult period as soon as possible.”

In Thu Bon commune, the volunteer group "Duy Xuyen and Friends" also organized a program to repair and replace parts for free for flood-affected residents. Mr. Le Cong Muoi, Deputy Head of the group, said that during the recent floods, many motorbikes submerged in water for extended periods suffered severe damage, causing difficulties in daily life and transportation. Recognizing this urgent need, the group prepared 1,000 bottles of engine oil, 300 ignition coils (ICs), and 300 spark plugs, and organized free replacements at the Thu Bon Commune Military Command's yard. "We understand that after a natural disaster, what people need is not just rice or clothes, but also a vehicle to go to work and earn a living. Supporting motorbike repairs, though a small thing, can help them return to normal life sooner," Mr. Muoi shared.

Crossing the jungle to deliver food supplies.

Upon receiving information that 155 households of the Co Tu ethnic minority in Ta Po village (Ben Giang commune) were isolated and in urgent need of relief, on October 31st and November 1st, Task Force No. 15 of the Command of Defense Area 2 - Thanh My traveled 70km, carrying essential supplies to provide timely assistance.

Lieutenant Colonel Bríu Xia, Deputy Political Commissar of the Defense Command of Zone 2 - Thạnh Mỹ, said that many roads leading to residential areas were severely damaged by landslides, paralyzing traffic and making it impossible for motorized vehicles to move. With the spirit of serving the people and ensuring no one goes hungry or is left behind in times of hardship, officers and soldiers took turns carrying goods, climbing slopes, and crossing streams to deliver rice, instant noodles, salt, cooking oil, drinking water, and other essential supplies to the people.
