Tourism in Binh Thuan is accelerating!

Việt NamViệt Nam30/08/2023

Since the opening of the two expressways, Binh Thuan has seen a significant increase in the number of tourists , especially after hosting the 2023 National Tourism Year, "Binh Thuan - Green Convergence". This achievement is largely due to the efforts of local authorities in building and maintaining the image of a safe, friendly, and high-quality destination, contributing to the province's positive tourism results.

Regaining form

The successful organization of the Opening Ceremony and activities of the 2023 National Tourism Year presents a great opportunity for Binh Thuan tourism to become a bright spot in the development of tourism in Central Vietnam and the whole country in the coming time. This is most evident on weekends this summer, when the streets of Phan Thiet City, lined with restaurants and other businesses, are bustling with traffic, sometimes even experiencing traffic jams. It's hard to believe, as Phan Thiet city center has always been relatively smooth, with traffic jams being a rare occurrence. However, the tourism industry has truly regained its momentum after a long period of stagnation. Since the opening of the expressway, new tours and routes have been formed and developed strongly, such as the Phu Quy Island tour, the Cu Lao Cau Island tour, and the Provincial Party Committee's historical site, attracting a large number of tourists to visit and learn about local tourist destinations.

From the beginning of the year until now, the province has welcomed over 5.3 million visitors, an 82% increase compared to the same period last year (including approximately 133,500 international visitors, a four-fold increase compared to the same period), with tourism revenue reaching nearly 13,450 billion VND, a 2.1-fold increase compared to the same period... According to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, this is a result exceeding expectations, thanks to the great efforts of the entire industry. The above figures strongly encourage and motivate the local authorities and businesses to overcome difficulties and strive for success, while also creating momentum and encouraging the entire industry to strive to achieve the set goals.

However, due to the current complex global situation— political and religious conflicts, increasingly fierce competition for tourists among countries in the region—the tourism industry in Vietnam in general, and Binh Thuan province in particular, has been significantly impacted, resulting in a relatively slow recovery in international tourist arrivals. Furthermore, after a long period of impact from the Covid-19 pandemic, the quality of services in accommodation establishments has shown signs of decline, especially in coastal areas. While tourism products have improved, they have not yet achieved a breakthrough or strong appeal to tourists. Street vending, begging, and harassment of tourists persist and are showing signs of increasing. Environmental sanitation in some areas remains poor; waste and wastewater in tourist areas, beaches, residential areas, and public spaces have not been thoroughly addressed. Coastal erosion and a lack of coordinated management and implementation in the construction of seawalls, especially in the Ham Tien - Mui Ne area, have negatively impacted the aesthetics and safety of the beaches...

It will soon become a key economic sector.

With numerous activities planned for the upcoming September 2nd holiday, as part of the National Tourism Year, and the efforts of local authorities, the province's tourism sector will likely easily achieve its set goals. These include welcoming 6.72 million visitors for the year, a 17.48% increase compared to the same period last year (including 220,000 international visitors, a 2.5-fold increase), and achieving total tourism revenue of VND 15.9 trillion, a 16.23% increase compared to 2022. Looking further ahead, the goal is to develop tourism into a key economic sector by 2025, welcoming 8.9 million visitors, with international visitors accounting for 10-12%. Tourism revenue is projected to reach VND 23.3 trillion, with an average annual growth rate of 18-20% during the 2021-2025 period. Tourism contributes 10-11% to the province's GRDP.

To achieve this goal, localities, the tourism industry, and tourism businesses need to continue improving the quality of existing products and services. They should strengthen tourism promotion and marketing, focus on human resource training, and organize many unique events and festivals to attract tourists. Currently, in addition to high-end tourism products such as golf, luxury beach resorts, marine sports tourism, and off-road sports tourism, Binh Thuan is developing key tourism product lines including "green" tourism, linking tourism activities with the preservation and promotion of resource values and environmental protection; cultural tourism associated with festivals, visiting and learning about the lives of local communities and traditional craft villages; promoting the development of agricultural tourism, forest-sea-sand dune ecological tourism, nature exploration, and adventure tourism; and combining resort tourism with MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions)...

In the coming period, Binh Thuan's tourism industry will focus on implementing key tasks such as developing a plan to establish the Management Board of Mui Ne National Tourist Area; developing a master plan for Mui Ne National Tourist Area until 2040, with a vision to 2050; successfully organizing the 2023 National Tourism Year in Binh Thuan; completing the construction of the Binh Thuan Provincial Theater and Cultural and Art Exhibition Center; and the project to preserve, restore, and promote the value of the Po Sah Inư Tower relic... In addition, it will strengthen communication in international tourist markets about Vietnam's new visa policy effective from August 15, 2023. Emphasis should be placed on tourism promotion activities in key international markets with large numbers of tourists and high potential, such as China, South Korea, India, and the UK... Focus will also be placed on preparing well for the peak international tourism season starting in September.

With specific plans and the efforts of the tourism industry, it is hoped that tourism activities in Binh Thuan will continue to achieve promising results in the coming time.
