OCOP products exported abroad.
With its agricultural sector boasting many unique ecological products, Hau Giang's OCOP program is creating a platform for agricultural and rural products to showcase their strengths. Many products have established their quality and reputation not only with domestic consumers but also internationally.
According to the Office for Coordinating National Target Programs in Hau Giang province, the province currently has 266 key products recognized as meeting provincial OCOP standards, including 92 four-star products and the rest being three-star products. Most of Hau Giang province's OCOP products are certified with appropriate quality standards such as ISO, VietGAP, GlobalGAP, GMP, etc. Along with increasingly advanced production and processing technologies, OCOP producers have applied many modern machines and equipment to production, innovating product designs, packaging, and labels. This has resulted in products that are both high-quality and aesthetically pleasing, building consumer trust.

In 2024, Hau Giang province aims for each district-level unit to evaluate and classify at least 5 products achieving 3-4 stars at the district-level OCOP standard, and at least one product achieving 4 stars at the provincial level. For provincial-level products, the goal is to recognize at least 8 products as meeting the 4-star standard and upgrade at least 25% of OCOP products from 3 stars to 4 stars at the provincial level.
A prime example is the snakehead fish products of Ky Nhu Cooperative in Phung Hiep district. Overcoming initial difficulties, through their efforts, the cooperative's products are now available in stores and Co.op Mart supermarket chains, and the cooperative also processes products for export to the US market…
Ms. Nguyen Kim Thuy, Director of Ky Nhu Cooperative, said: "To export products to the US market, I raise fish according to VietGAP standards. To prepare for future development, the cooperative will expand its factory, cold storage facilities, and raw material areas… to bring Hau Giang snakehead fish products to a wider market."
Not only Ky Nhu Cooperative, but OCOP products from Hau Giang province are now available in most provinces and cities nationwide through several large retail systems such as Bach Hoa Xanh, Co.opMart, Winmart… In addition, some fruit products have been and are being exported to EU and Hong Kong markets; products from snakehead fish are also indirectly exported to some markets such as South Korea and Taiwan...
Actively address the issue of product output.
In addition to focusing on improving product quality, the province also prioritizes the production and creation of attractive and high-quality labels and packaging. To enhance the value and spread of OCOP products, Hau Giang province has identified the need to focus on establishing OCOP product business centers, aiming for each locality to build one such center.
Based on this platform, OCOP entities will distribute and sell their products, solving the biggest bottleneck in OCOP products today. Many localities have effectively implemented the development of OCOP products and focused on supporting localities that do not yet have recognized products; at the same time, they will continue to support entities in completing dossiers for the re-recognition of products whose certifications are about to expire.
According to the Standing Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Hau Giang province, Truong Canh Tuyen, the province has implemented a comprehensive program for developing agricultural and rural tourism in the context of building new rural areas during the 2021-2025 period. The province has also set performance targets for each locality, helping them identify the distinctive products of each hamlet, commune, and district for development; and simultaneously investing in machinery, equipment, and improving product packaging design to ensure they meet market demands.
In 2024, the province aims for each district-level unit to evaluate and classify at least 5 products achieving 3-4 stars at the district level, and at least one product achieving 4 stars at the provincial level. For provincial-level products, the goal is to recognize at least 8 products as meeting 4-star standards, and upgrade at least 25% of OCOP products from 3 stars to 4 stars at the provincial level. Re-certification will be granted to OCOP products whose certification has expired within the province. The province will also finalize dossiers for 3 OCOP products to register for national-level product evaluation and classification.
To achieve this goal, the Provincial Steering Committee for National Target Programs will promote the application of science and technology, innovate and improve processing technology for small and medium-sized enterprises, especially for OCOP products that have been recognized with star ratings.
Review and develop standards and regulations for OCOP products to meet the requirements of both domestic and export markets; develop a set of technical standards to support production and monitoring and evaluation of OCOP products; promote the application of solutions for protecting and effectively exploiting the value of intellectual property assets such as geographical indications, collective trademarks, and certification marks for OCOP products, especially national-level OCOP products.
In addition, it is necessary to strengthen trade promotion activities, attract investment in rural production development, effectively implement the agricultural restructuring plan towards concentrated, specialized commodity production and value chain linkages to increase the added value of products; apply science and technology to agricultural production, increase productivity and output, reduce production costs, and increase the competitiveness of agricultural products in the market, especially OCOP products.
