Historic floods in recent days in the South Central region continue to leave serious consequences for transport infrastructure, especially the national railway.
Vietnam Railways Corporation (VNR) said that many infrastructure sections were seriously damaged, making train operations through the area still difficult even though the North-South route was reopened on November 25 - after 8 days of continuous congestion.
The opening of the route is just the first step, because in reality there are still a series of locations that are forced to run slowly to ensure safety. In the context of infrastructure not being able to fully recover, the railway industry must adjust the passenger train operation plan.
Accordingly, from December 2-10, the SE5/SE6 trains departing from Saigon and Hanoi stations will temporarily stop operating. The SE21/SE22 trains will also stop running on many days during the period from December 2-10, depending on the direction. Passengers are advised to follow the text message notification of the train suspension and can return tickets online or at the stations without being charged a fee.

The impact of the heavy rains and floods from November 17 to 25 has severely damaged the railway structure on the Dieu Tri - Nha Trang section. As of today, the entire railway industry has had to stop running 105 passenger trains and 65 freight trains.
To support passengers while waiting for repairs, more than 35,000 free meals were provided on affected trains. In parallel, about 39,000 train tickets were refunded, equivalent to nearly 24 billion VND, while the total damage to passenger and freight transport was estimated at about 50 billion VND.
The Ministry of Construction's report updated as of 7:00 a.m. on November 26 shows that the total damage caused by floods to railways in the South Central region from November 16 to 25 is about 122 billion VND. Railway infrastructure alone accounts for 80 billion VND, with 61 landslides on the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City route, with some sections of the road centerline shifting up to 4 meters and many locations 0.4 - 4 meters deep. Floodwaters also washed away the roadbed on the Dieu Tri - Quy Nhon section, while the Da Lat - Trai Mat route recorded dozens of fallen trees and slope landslides.
Not only railways, but also air routes are affected by bad weather. This afternoon, Vietnam Airlines announced that flights to and from Phu Bai Airport (Hue) may have to adjust their schedules or have to wait due to thunderstorms.
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, from the night of December 2 to the end of December 3, the eastern region of the provinces from Quang Ngai to Dak Lak and Khanh Hoa will continue to have moderate to heavy rain, with some places experiencing extremely heavy rain, with rainfall ranging from 70 to 120 mm, with some places exceeding 180 mm. The rain is forecast to last until December 5, spreading to the provinces from Quang Tri to Da Nang and the east of Quang Ngai with total rainfall of 50 to 150 mm, with some places exceeding 250 mm.
