Many North-South trains have been suspended.

Railway infrastructure from Dieu Tri (Gia Lai) to Nha Trang (Khanh Hoa) was damaged after historic floods, forcing the railway industry to suspend many SE train services and restrict speed on several sections. As of today (December 1st), more than 39,000 tickets have been refunded to passengers, with estimated losses of nearly 50 billion VND.

The historic floods in South Central Vietnam over the past few days continue to leave severe consequences for transportation infrastructure, especially the national railway system.

Vietnam Railways Corporation (VNR) stated that many sections of infrastructure have been severely damaged, causing difficulties for train operations in the area despite the North-South line being reopened on November 25th - after 8 consecutive days of disruption.

Reopening the line is only the first step, because in reality, there are still numerous locations where trains must operate at a slower speed to ensure safety. Given that infrastructure has not yet fully recovered, the railway industry has to adjust its passenger train operating plans.

Accordingly, from December 2nd to 10th, the SE5/SE6 trains departing from Saigon and Hanoi stations will temporarily cease operation. The SE21/SE22 trains will also be suspended for several days during the period of December 2nd to 10th, depending on the route. Passengers are advised to monitor text messages announcing train suspensions and can return tickets online or at stations without incurring any fees.

The impact of the prolonged heavy rains and floods from November 17th to 25th has severely damaged the railway infrastructure on the Dieu Tri - Nha Trang section. As of today, the entire railway sector has had to suspend the operation of 105 passenger trains and 65 freight trains.

To support passengers while repairs are underway, over 35,000 free meals have been provided on the affected trains. Simultaneously, approximately 39,000 train tickets have been refunded, equivalent to nearly 24 billion VND, while the overall losses for passenger and freight transport are estimated at around 50 billion VND.

According to a report from the Ministry of Construction, updated at 7:00 AM on November 26th, the total damage caused by floods to railways in the South Central region from November 16th to 25th is approximately 122 billion VND. Railway infrastructure alone accounts for 80 billion VND, with 61 landslides on the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City line, some sections of the track centerline shifted by up to 4 meters, and many locations experienced landslides 0.4 - 4 meters deep. Floodwaters also washed away the roadbed on the Dieu Tri - Quy Nhon section, while the Da Lat - Trai Mat line recorded dozens of locations with fallen trees and landslides.

Not only railways, but also air travel is affected by bad weather. This afternoon, Vietnam Airlines announced that flights to and from Phu Bai Airport (Hue) may have to adjust their schedules or circle due to thunderstorms.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, from the night of December 2nd to the end of December 3rd, the eastern areas of provinces from Quang Ngai to Dak Lak and Khanh Hoa will continue to experience moderate to heavy rain, with some areas experiencing exceptionally heavy rainfall. Rainfall amounts will generally range from 70 to 120 mm, with some areas exceeding 180 mm. This rain is forecast to continue until December 5th, spreading to provinces from Quang Tri to Da Nang and eastern Quang Ngai, with total rainfall of 50 to 150 mm, and some areas exceeding 250 mm.
