Espanyol did not let Barca celebrate the championship

Espanyol players and RCDE stadium organizers tried every way to ruin Barcelona's La Liga championship celebration party in the early morning of May 16.

In the 90+5 minute of injury time, Lamine Yamal assisted Fermin Lopez to score the winning goal for Barcelona 2-0 right at Espanyol's home field. This result helped "Blaugrana" become the new La Liga champion 2 rounds early.

Immediately after the final whistle, Barcelona players hugged each other, preparing for a celebration on the opponent's field. However, a group of Espanyol players immediately rushed in to cause trouble.

Not stopping there, the RCDE stadium management also turned on the water fountains in the midfield area, making it impossible for Barcelona players to continue celebrating.

Barcelona put their joy on hold until the next round, when they host Villarreal at Lluis Companys Stadium to celebrate winning the 2024/25 Spanish championship.

Heavily armed police appeared in the stands of Espanyol fans. In 2023, Barca also won the championship after winning at RCDE. Angry at their team's relegation, hundreds of Espanyol fans rushed onto the field, chased and beat Barca players, and smashed the organizers' equipment.
