Detail

The "Sounds of Vietnam" concert program, held on the evening of May 29th at the Grand Concert Hall of the Vietnam National Academy of Music, performed by the Vietnam National Traditional Orchestra, will officially mark a special milestone in the country's traditional music life. "Sounds of Vietnam" is structured as an artistic journey spanning the length of the nation's culture. From the majestic drums of "Lac Hong Drum," the program opens up a musical space rich in identity with diverse colors from the North, Central, and South of Vietnam, connecting tradition and modernity, and blending classical works with new compositions for the traditional orchestra.

Audiences will have the opportunity to enjoy works of great artistic value, such as "Ông Gióng" by composer Xuân Khoát, the first major work written for a Vietnamese traditional orchestra.

In addition, there are new compositions such as "Homeland Melody" by Hong Thai, "Vietnam Fantasy" by Ho Hoai Anh, "Harmonious Country" by Pham Ngoc Khoi, and "One Unified Nation" by Duong Duc Thuy – a work completed in early 2026 and selected for its first performance in the program.

The simultaneous emergence of works from multiple generations of composers shows that Vietnamese folk music is not static in nostalgia, but is continuously evolving, transforming, and expanding its expressive potential in contemporary life.

In particular, many works in the program are developed from the spirit of inheriting cultural heritage recognized by UNESCO, such as Quan Ho folk singing, Vi Giam folk singing, and Hue music. From that foundation, the musicians continue to develop new works that reflect the spirit of today while still retaining the essence of Vietnam.

One of the notable highlights of "Sound of Vietnam" is the appearance of solo, duet, and group performances that are rich in technique and emotion.

Audiences will enjoy the "Sunrise Concerto" for the moon lute performed by People's Artist Co Huy Hung; the "Au O Vi Dau" with the soulful sound of the zither played by Meritorious Artists Le Chi and Le Giang; and the "Czardas" performance featuring the combination of the t'rưng and nhị instruments performed by People's Artist Hoa Dang and artist Hai Dang. Beyond instrumental music, the program also celebrates the beauty of traditional Vietnamese vocal music through familiar songs such as "Xa Khoi," "Chiec Khan Pieu," and "Ho Chi Minh, the Most Beautiful Name," with the participation of beloved artists such as Assoc. Prof. Dr. Meritorious Artist Tan Nhan, Anh Tho, and Trong Tan.
