The 17th Writing Contest 'Simple but Noble Role Models'

The People's Army Newspaper has just announced the rules of the 17th "Simple but Noble Examples" Writing Contest, taking place from September 2025 to August 2026 , to continue spreading profound humanistic values, promoting the spirit of living well and working well in the community.

The contest is hosted by the People's Army Newspaper, in coordination with the Press and Publishing Department (Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission), the People's Army Publishing House, and the North Asia Commercial Joint Stock Bank (BAC A BANK), with the support of Army Corps 20 - Saigon Newport Corporation.

The contest continues to receive entries from a large number of Vietnamese citizens at home and abroad, including overseas Vietnamese, Vietnamese people living, studying and working abroad, as well as foreigners working in Vietnam. The organizing committee especially encourages the participation of authors from remote, border and island areas - where many beautiful stories have not yet been properly spread.

With the theme of “Ordinary but noble examples”, the contest focuses on honoring people who live in ordinary life but whose actions and deeds bring positive and profound impacts to the community. These can be people who overcome adversity, dedicate themselves to the common good, silently contribute to the development of the unit, locality or country, and are willing to put the interests of the community above personal interests.

Entries must be accurate, honest, have a clear address, and not violate the law on journalism and intellectual property. The article must be about real people - real events, and have not been published in other media, including social networks. Each article must not exceed 1,800 words, and must be in journalistic genres such as memoirs, reports, notes, reflections, etc. The work must have press photos directly related to the character mentioned, and must not use general illustrations.

The contest will accept entries from September 26, 2025 to August 31, 2026, based on the time of email or postmark. The closing and award ceremony is expected to be held in October 2026. The prize structure includes 16 individual prizes with a total value of hundreds of millions of VND: 1 A prize worth 30 million VND, 2 B prizes worth 20 million VND each, 3 C prizes worth 10 million VND each and 10 Encouragement prizes worth 5 million VND each. In particular, the main characters in the winning works will also be honored and receive a prize worth 10 million VND.

Each author can submit an unlimited number of entries. Good quality works will be published in the publications of the People's Army Newspaper to participate in the official judging, and at the same time have the opportunity to be selected and printed in the book "Simple but noble examples", belonging to the book series "Studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style".
