The 17th "Ordinary but Noble Examples" Writing Contest
The People's Army Newspaper has just announced the regulations for the 17th "Ordinary but Noble Examples" writing contest, which will take place from September 2025 to August 2026 , aiming to continue spreading profound humanistic values and encouraging the spirit of living and working well in the community.
The competition was organized by the People's Army Newspaper, in coordination with the Press and Publishing Department (Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Committee), the People's Army Publishing House, Bac A Commercial Joint Stock Bank (BAC A BANK), and with the support of the 20th Army Corps - Saigon Newport Corporation.
The contest continues to receive entries from a wide range of Vietnamese citizens both domestically and abroad, including overseas Vietnamese, those living, studying, and working overseas, as well as foreigners working in Vietnam. The organizers especially encourage participation from authors from remote areas, border regions, and islands – places where many inspiring stories have yet to be shared to their full potential.
With the overarching theme of "Ordinary but Noble Role Models," the competition focuses on honoring ordinary people whose actions and deeds have a positive and far-reaching impact on the community. These could be individuals who overcome adversity, dedicate themselves to the common good, silently contribute to the development of their organization, locality, or nation, and are willing to put the community's interests above their own.
Entries must be accurate, truthful, clearly attribution-based, and not violate press and intellectual property laws. Articles must be based on real people and events, and must not have been previously published in other media, including social media. Each article should not exceed 1,800 words and should be in journalistic genres such as essays, feature articles, notes, or reflections. The work must include journalistic photographs directly related to the subject, and should not use generic illustrative images.
The contest will accept entries from September 26, 2025 to August 31, 2026, based on the email submission date or postmark. The awards ceremony is tentatively scheduled for October 2026. The prize structure includes 16 individual prizes with a total value of hundreds of millions of VND: 1 A prize worth 30 million VND, 2 B prizes worth 20 million VND each, 3 C prizes worth 10 million VND each, and 10 Consolation prizes worth 5 million VND each. Notably, the main characters in the winning entries will also be honored and receive a prize of 10 million VND.
Authors can submit their entries by mail to the address of the People's Army Newspaper, 7 Phan Dinh Phung Street, Hanoi (clearly marked on the envelope: "Journalistic work submitted to the 17th 'Ordinary but Noble Examples' Writing Contest"), or by email to the following addresses: baoqdndct@gmail.com , cuoituan@qdnd.vn , dientu@qdnd.vn .
Each author may submit an unlimited number of entries. High-quality works will be published in publications of the People's Army Newspaper for official consideration and will also have the opportunity to be selected for inclusion in the book "Ordinary but Noble Examples," part of the "Studying and Following the Ideology, Morality, and Style of Ho Chi Minh" book series.
