UPU Letter Writing Competition 2026
The theme of the 2026 UPU letter writing competition is about human connectivity in the digital world. The deadline for submissions is March 5th (based on the postmark).
The 55th UPU International Letter Writing Competition (2026) has the theme: “Write a letter to a friend explaining why human connection matters in a digital world.”
The digital world has become more familiar than ever, as we live in it, interacting with each other daily, learning, working, and entertaining ourselves on digital platforms, where information, data, and human activities have been digitized and operated through electronic devices, the internet, and digital software. Therefore, human connection has become more important than ever.
It is a connection between people that can be direct, through conversation, or indirectly through writing, such as handwritten letters, or exchanging information on digital platforms. It's a connection through actions and values such as cooperation, helping, sharing; shared goals, ideals, and beliefs; volunteerism, creativity, and fighting for what is good. It's also a connection through emotions and spirit, such as empathy, listening, understanding; sharing joys, sorrows, and memories.
The digital world has created diverse ways and methods of connecting people, not only within a single country but across multiple countries, and connecting an individual with the world, transcending all spatial and temporal distances.
With its profound theme, the 55th UPU International Letter Writing Competition is not only a literary playground but also a forum for young people to reflect on and express their views on the value of human connection in the context of digital technology reshaping all aspects of life.
Every year, the International Letter Writing Competition, organized by the Universal Postal Union (UPU), has become a familiar cultural activity, attracting millions of students to participate.
The purpose of the competition is not only to contribute to the development of students' writing skills and creative thinking, but also to aim for greater values. It aims to help students access and understand social and contemporary issues, express their thoughts, and thereby cultivate and nurture the feelings and responsibilities of the younger generation towards society, the country, and the world. In addition, the competition also serves as a bridge to help students better understand the role of the postal service in life and social development.
