Exhibition "Lotus in Stone"
The exhibition "Lotus in Stone": Honoring the unwavering beauty of female political prisoners in Con Dao, will be open to the public from May 12th to the end of July 2026 at the Con Dao Museum, 2 Nguyen Hue Street, Con Dao Special Zone, Ho Chi Minh City. This meaningful event commemorates the 136th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's birth, profoundly portraying the indomitable spirit of Vietnamese women through artworks made from lotus leaves.
The exhibition is divided into three main themes: Ho Chi Minh - The Most Beautiful Name, The Lotus Blossom in Stone, and The Everlasting Fragrance of the Lotus. The exhibition space focuses on recreating the portraits and moving stories of 25 exemplary female political prisoners during the two wars of resistance against French colonialism and American imperialism, many of whom have become symbols of courage, such as Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, Vo Thi Sau, Hoang Ngan, Nguyen Thi Thap, Hoang Thi Ai, Nguyen Thi Dinh, Nguyen Thi Binh, Truong My Hoa... Each figure represents a life intertwined with the tenacious struggles of the nation.
Dong Thap artisans and a team of experts spent nearly 27 months researching and experimenting to create portraits of female political prisoners on dried lotus leaves, each measuring 60x70cm. The use of this flower, a symbol of purity and resilience, to depict these steadfast women has created a unique and emotionally resonant artistic impression for viewers.
